This is nothing to do with whether players bot or not, and everything to do with revenue.
If Player A gets the gate breaker and applies it to Player B, then Player B either loses his army or his res. If he's online he cannot defend (counter-attack is a ridiculous suggestion in this context unless Player A is a complete moron, Acer go and sit in the corner) and so has to use coins to prevent a total loss. They have to port, truce, holiday or quickly buy a package and hope for a gate breaker themselves, all of which is a total waste of money forced on the player by these stupid items.
This is awful, and the arguments in their defence are pitiful. Now people are saying, "well it's only for an hour" and "there's only a small chance of getting one". So what the hell is the point of it all?
Let's all hope it's a damp squib that disappears after a while.
Meanwhile, how about fixing numerous and well-known bugs, such as people being able to join the alliance of their choice? How difficult can that be? Just make the alliance case-sensitive in the code and the job is done.
