Whenever i'm sad over something serious such as a loss, I more or less just like the company. When you're in that state not very much can be said to help you, so sometimes it's enough to just have someone that understands what support actually means. If this means sitting in silence, so be it.
Sometimes silence can be much more meaningful than words.

its hard to face the reality that we and those around us are mortal. that has to sink in, and it takes a great deal of self reflection to overcome the pain which results from loss.

only two things remain for you to try to do D, dont have pity for her, have confidence in her.

and? know that these things may take years, so allow her the time, no hurry.

When my mother died, I remember being out of it alot and being just a general bag of mixed feelings. I don't really know what to say that could help you, because in many ways I'm still not over it. One of the best things that helped me was being around little kids. They're always so happy, and so full of life, it makes you want to take a step forward and live yours.
