Thread: Exotic Pets?

    Default Exotic Pets?

Does anybody own any interesting exotic animals? Snakes, fennecs, tigers, etc?

I ask, because as of Thursday, I will be the proud owner of a beautiful Lesser Pastel Ball Python! I have wanted to have a snake for _ages_ but for the last few years have had a housemate who cannot stand them. However, current housemate got a job in a new city so it's on with the snake!

I do not as well. Dogs have always been satisfactory enough for me. There are endless possibilities on exotic pets though. Personally, I've always been partial to fluffy animals.

BRISBANE, Australia — A 16-foot python stalked a family dog for days before swallowing the pet whole in front of horrified children in the Australian tropics, animal experts said Wednesday.

This snake is a wild specimen and is just doing what its instincts tell it. Personally, I have always questioned the sanity/wiseness of people who buy tiny dogs and live in places like the Everglades and towns bordering the Australian bush. It seems like a needless risk to the animal's safety to me. A 16-foot python could easily consume a dog up to small terrier stature or a cat. Also, how insecure is their home that the snake has repeatedly been able to gain access to eat their cat/guinea pig etc? And why was the guinea pig roaming around the house in the first place? If I were this family, I would seriously question the safety of my children if my home were accessible to wild animals. In Australia, a non-venomous python is not even close to the most dangerous thing around.

LOL, I'm sorry, no disrespect intended, but as an Australian, I can tell you that most places "border the Australian bush", and most suburbs still experience snakes and feral animals. Animals "roaming around the house" are in the backyard, and as with that news report, on the back porch.

For myself, I live in a suburban area very near a major city, and still have to keep such considerations in mind. Last year I had a snake in my garage. Given a little time to itself, it simply returned to it's natural habitat. In the nearby major city, there was even a recent occurrence of a Crocodile in the local river (I've often wondered how it would have gone with the Bull Sharks in there).

In all sincerity, the only way to remove the possibility of a snake, or other feral animals in Australia.... is to live in New Zealand... but then you have a whole realm of other issues

But I'm off-topic, sorry for the derail.

i would love a pet chimp, thatd be awesome, most exotic pets ive seen others with would either be a pair of golden macaws or yea a snake. the macaws were cool to see but i personnally wouldnt want to own them because of the smell and noise.

you could also go the simpsons route and get yourself a spiderpig, also would be cool...

A monkey or chimp like Tip said would be awesome but i've also heard they require more attention than a human baby does. Though it would be cool to teach my chimp to play evony. Pffft who needs bots these days!
