1109 A.S, Autumn
The crowd was starting to gather outside the large gate of the Academy, citizens of Transberg that wanted to catch a glimpse of the new students that would start their first year there. The gates were open, but City Guardsmen, armored in white chain-mail armor and wielding halberds, were blocking the way, so that the crowd couldn't get inside the Academy walls. Being built on one of the two hills of Transberg, there was only one way in.
The other hill was occupied by the Royal Palace, where king Edrian Vareth II lived with his family.
Inside the walls, there was another crowd, but this one was made up from both old and new students of the academy, all having their eyes towards a large wooden platform with a podium on it, where an old man was standing. On his sides were other people, both instructors and personnel like chefs and cleaners. Behind the old man was a throne, a simple one made from wood, where the king sat. It was his duty to attend to the ceremonies of the Academy.
"Welcome everyone," said the old man behind the podium. He looked to be around the age of sixty, with a bald head but with a long beard, white and pure as snow. He was dressed in a simple gray robe, one that scholars and mages usually wears, with a golden necklace with a big red ruby in it. As soon as he started talking, men that were positioned on crates around the crowd of students said the same thing as he said, so that people in the back could hear as well.
"It is an honor to greet you all here, to the opening of the 328th season. I am not one for long introductions and are more prone on getting things done with while people can still stand on their feet, so I will make this short. Some of you who attended here last year and the year before that knows me already, but I will still give you a proper introduction to those that are new. I am Jaidus, Headmaster of this Academy. I've been in charge of this Academy for 34 years now in a row, and before that I served as the late king Garian V's Hand and Informant. Anyone that wishes to consult with me about anything should be pleased with knowing that my door is always open for everyone, may you be noble or peasant, man or woman, human or elf. Now, classes won't start until the day after tomorrow, so do not be shy with drinking tonight. For those that don't know, we always celebrate our opening with a grand feast, one that has been set up in the Training Field behind the Academy." He raised his hands and made three claps with them. The giant door to the interior of the Academy started to slowly open.
"Pass right through to reach the Training Field, where we have set up tents and games like archery. If you would like to follow us, please."
The headmaster and all of the other people, including the king, started to make their way down from the platform, going ahead of the crowd.
The Entrance Hall of the Academy was a giant room, decorated with towering windows, large paintings of old Headmasters and Instructors, red carpets that were covering the white, marble floor and two giant stairways that lead to the upper levels. Between the stairways lied an open door, leading to the Training Field. The field was one big yard, with an Archery Range, three large sandy circle for dueling and two tracks for practicing with a lance. Giant and colorful tents had been set up here and there, with tables and benches set up inside of them. A large cooking pit had been dug up in the center of the field, where various pigs, lambs and other creatures were being prepared for the feast. Large casks filled with ale and other alcoholic drinks had been set a few meters away from the cooking pit. Another platform was set up next to the biggest tent, where a group of bards were standing, with different instruments in their hands. As soon as people started to take part of the festivities, the bards started to play songs about good deeds, heroic adventurers and comical songs like A Knight's Brave Deeds, A Jester's Love Story and Come to my Castle.
