Default The Academy [Remake 3.0, RP thread]

    1109 A.S, Autumn

The crowd was starting to gather outside the large gate of the Academy, citizens of Transberg that wanted to catch a glimpse of the new students that would start their first year there. The gates were open, but City Guardsmen, armored in white chain-mail armor and wielding halberds, were blocking the way, so that the crowd couldn't get inside the Academy walls. Being built on one of the two hills of Transberg, there was only one way in.
The other hill was occupied by the Royal Palace, where king Edrian Vareth II lived with his family.
Inside the walls, there was another crowd, but this one was made up from both old and new students of the academy, all having their eyes towards a large wooden platform with a podium on it, where an old man was standing. On his sides were other people, both instructors and personnel like chefs and cleaners. Behind the old man was a throne, a simple one made from wood, where the king sat. It was his duty to attend to the ceremonies of the Academy.

"Welcome everyone," said the old man behind the podium. He looked to be around the age of sixty, with a bald head but with a long beard, white and pure as snow. He was dressed in a simple gray robe, one that scholars and mages usually wears, with a golden necklace with a big red ruby in it. As soon as he started talking, men that were positioned on crates around the crowd of students said the same thing as he said, so that people in the back could hear as well.
"It is an honor to greet you all here, to the opening of the 328th season. I am not one for long introductions and are more prone on getting things done with while people can still stand on their feet, so I will make this short. Some of you who attended here last year and the year before that knows me already, but I will still give you a proper introduction to those that are new. I am Jaidus, Headmaster of this Academy. I've been in charge of this Academy for 34 years now in a row, and before that I served as the late king Garian V's Hand and Informant. Anyone that wishes to consult with me about anything should be pleased with knowing that my door is always open for everyone, may you be noble or peasant, man or woman, human or elf. Now, classes won't start until the day after tomorrow, so do not be shy with drinking tonight. For those that don't know, we always celebrate our opening with a grand feast, one that has been set up in the Training Field behind the Academy." He raised his hands and made three claps with them. The giant door to the interior of the Academy started to slowly open.
"Pass right through to reach the Training Field, where we have set up tents and games like archery. If you would like to follow us, please."
The headmaster and all of the other people, including the king, started to make their way down from the platform, going ahead of the crowd.

The Entrance Hall of the Academy was a giant room, decorated with towering windows, large paintings of old Headmasters and Instructors, red carpets that were covering the white, marble floor and two giant stairways that lead to the upper levels. Between the stairways lied an open door, leading to the Training Field. The field was one big yard, with an Archery Range, three large sandy circle for dueling and two tracks for practicing with a lance. Giant and colorful tents had been set up here and there, with tables and benches set up inside of them. A large cooking pit had been dug up in the center of the field, where various pigs, lambs and other creatures were being prepared for the feast. Large casks filled with ale and other alcoholic drinks had been set a few meters away from the cooking pit. Another platform was set up next to the biggest tent, where a group of bards were standing, with different instruments in their hands. As soon as people started to take part of the festivities, the bards started to play songs about good deeds, heroic adventurers and comical songs like A Knight's Brave Deeds, A Jester's Love Story and Come to my Castle.

Sabuit Shadowstrider cared little for pomp and circumstance, even when it concerned her (albeit indirectly in this case). She didn't care for drinking alcohol (although it was a pleasant experience), nor for great feasts. The dizzying arrays of sights, smells and noises disturbed her. Sabuit had always been a loner - whilst others would go outside and see the world, Sabuit would simply read a book, study magic or go swimming by herself. Other people were just there in her view. Other people had their own lives to care about - why should she add to their troubles? The bright light of the day stung her eyes - Drow were not used to broad daylight; they never saw it, living in the Underdark as they did. Sabuit was a new entrant into the Academy of Transberg. She had wanted to attend since her century, but only now was she finally able to be accepted. "At such a young age... Are you sure, Sabuit?" Her Mother's words echoed in her head. Was she sure? Sabuit hesitated to answer. It was possibly a big turn of fortune, or the biggest mistake of her life, as it had proved with Merinyon...

So many people... so many damn races. Elves, dwarves, humans, half-breeds... there's just so many of them. Am I the only Drow here? Sabuit looked around, and saw a group of dark-skinned elves with a red spider tattooed on their arms. Lolthites. Scum of the underground barely worth their lives. Spider-worshippers who prostitute themselves before their damned Queen just to gain the odd favour from her... They are worthy of no respect, and I'm definitely not going to go over there. Hell knows what they'd do to me... Sabuit got herself a drink and sat down in a shaded area to shield her eyes from the glaring sun which beat down upon the field. She leaned against a tree, and watched as an assortment of males and females from most races walked by. Near her, two humans were stringing bows. Stringing bows isn't that hard... Weak-willed humans. I'd expect not much less from a race that has a tenth of our life. A tenth! What does one do in 70 years? By the age of 50, you've reached your biologically useful limit. You can prepare for the future - you'll be long gone before then. Sabuit was glad to be an elf - the long lifespan of an elf was greatly... how does one put it... supplanted by House Shadowstrider's unique bloodline - agelessness wasn't half-bad, after all. You reach the peak of your vitality, and then you remain so until you grow weary of the world. It's perfectly logical... But it is still tainted blood.

Aiglos Tarag had not wanted to come. yet he had little option other than spending the rest of his life as street scum, robbing the market for food.

before he left, a mysterious package of denars had been left in his favorite hideout. he wondered at who left it, and how they knew where he stayed. he took the small fortune, buying clean clothes, and a long knife to defend from robbers on the journey.

yet now that he was here he begun to enjoy himself. he gained a small group of admirers after he demonstrated his skill in archery.

looking around he noticed the different races:
Humans, dwarves, the occasional odd creature. only one stood out though. a drow elf. Aiglos decided to join her.

Amaron walked by the Drow as he had a glass of wine in hand he started his way to the archery range all the while thinking of what he told his elder. "Look i don't care if you think I'm to young I'm going this year! I have a promise to keep!"

Amaron shook his head as he reached the range with all the humans and other races shooting arrows, So many other races, some of them are decent shots others would be best suited as nothing more then a meat shield. he thought to himself as he quickly strung his bow then aiming and launching an arrow full force into the bulls eye of a target making a thud that would soon be followed by another arrow thudding into the bulls eye. It seemed just as quick as he let one go he had another one ready to fire.

10 arrows in the bulls eye and 1 just outside. Amaron Cursed himself for his mistake as he walked over and sat down next to a drow elf who seemed to be deep in thought near a tree, Another elf this could be interesting he thought as he took a sip of his wine

Sabuit watched as the two other people walked over and sat down near her. She cursed herself for not concealing her identity better, but said nothing and continued to sip her wine as the wood elf walked over. Wood elf... interesting. Bronzed skin, brown hair, general distaste for civilized living, it's all there. Except the faultless archery. But that's to be expected - people never meet expectations. She remained silent, but thoughts about the wood elf raced through her mind. She ignored the human, because... he was human, and not worth her attention. He could've been the King of Avalon, and the most handsome man in the world, and she wouldn't have even batted an eyelid in his direction. For now, she focused her attentions on the wood elf. He was... interesting. Elves don't usually take well to muscles, but wood elves - they could pull off muscles like no other elf could.

Sabuit, ever the introvert, decided to remain quiet for the time being. If this man wanted conversation, then he starts it, not her.

the drow seemed disinterested in Aiglos, busy staring at a male elf that had walked over. probably finds him attractive Aiglos thought to himself

    "so...where are you from?"

Amaron thinking the human was talking to him shot a quick glance the humans way, then turned back to face forward, "I'm a Sylvan elf so where i come from is not a singular place i live in a forest i could live by myself or with a tribe, either way doesn't matter." he said almost rudely, as he then turned to look at the archery range shaking his head. "Always the 11th arrow always is off." he said quietly to himself before turning to the drow.

"Well instead of standing around without introducing myself and making this anymore awkward I'm Amaron a Sylvan elf." he said as he stuck out his hand to the drow.

Sabuit hated a conversation with three people... It was always a case of one person would always feel left out.

The wood elf's name was Amaron. Forest habitat, of course... He made a gesture of introduction towards Sabuit - she didn't return it, of course.

"Sabuit Shadowstrider. I don't do... introductions with a physical component. Are you a student here at the Academy?" She continued to ignore the human.

"Very well" Amaron said as he put down his hand.

Amaron cleared his throat "Yes I am, in fact I'm a new student here." "So what about you?" he asked "Are you a student?" he kept his eyes on Sabuit's eyes to make no mistake he wanted nothing to do with a human.
