are you 1 of the 90% or 10% that want me to tell you how you look in your muscletop/wifebeater and tights?

Lying is not always control-able per say though,

Your sub-concious mind and emotions can change the way you recall or view a situation so unknowingly you are actually lying when retelling that information..

Humans by nature are pretty selfish, in that if lying means you get a better desired out come a lot of people would choose that route.

It may not be viewed or deemed right or even moral but isn't it a fact that you tell a lie every 2minutes or something ?? lol

Now honesty is tricky, say you get told a secret by someone, lets just say person A told person B something mean about person C. Person C consults person B about if person A said something mean about them. Should person B be honest and tell person C, or should person B keep the secret that was told by person A. Thats just a factor to consider.

I know how I look, you don't need to tell me anything.

This is why I've always claimed that there is no such thing as "The" truth. There is your truth, and my truth, and that person over there's truth. But even telling "your" truth is still honesty to the best of your knowledge. As to your analogy, this is the prime example of lack of care/respect when supplying "truth", since passing on information you were given, instead of observed, as truth, cannot be verified. Even more than this, passing on pre-judged observations is a discolouration of truth.

Honesty isn't always a one-sided concept. (I'm sure many will jump all over that concept, but anyway...)

If I tell you that Mandy says she saw Michael cheating on his girlfriend, should you take it as truth that Michael was cheating?
Or is "my truth" only that Mandy says that Michael was cheating?
Is Mandy's truth, that she saw Michael cheating, or did she see him briefly kiss an old friend, and she judged the observation before handing on "her truth"?
The recipient of the information should question what it is that they're hearing second-hand, and definitely third-hand.

POUNCE!!! oh wait I agree with this.

OH MY GAWWWD!!! Mandy is such a manipulator. tsk tsk tsk

Its been my experience that some cloud a lie with facts. In the case that you present, I would judge that Mandy is actually trying to get Michael, by attempting to split up his relationship with his girlfriend, with this type of gossip. <--- that would be my opinion, but no where near the real truth, because I would not know all the facts, and it would not be any of my business what micheal did with Cindy. Penny, Michael's gf, would just have to find the lipstick on his twitter account, for it to be an actual cheating event. just saying, s'all.

I agree that when told something, one should seek the motivation of the teller.

The truth is like a rock. Solid, no holes, having weight and a firm foundation.

A lie is like concrete. Resembles the truth for its hardness, but is made up of sand, cement, water and just enough rock to give it some firmness. Yet concrete? is full of holes, and easily cracks under pressure.

Well lying isnt good but telling the truth can sometimes hurt people right? But lying about something just to stay outa of trouble is bad, umm I think? Of course I've gotten into lots of trouble and still lied... of course I almost never get away with it being unable to keep a straight face when my parents pulled out the "rooi worsies" trick (its a kinda a afrikaans way to get to know if someone is telling the truth. Rooi Worsies means Red Sausages... it sounds way better in afrikaans.) anyway. lying is bad as i see it but necissary sometimes. That's my thoughts.
