A couple times people have made the comment that PHNX was lucky to "get" big players from nemesis. Perhaps I'm reading some snarkiness into these comments that is unintended, but for the record...
The Nemesis experiment ultimately failed. Some of us recognized that it had before others and took steps to salvage the parts that had succeeded. When the Big hitter Daily actives of Nemesis tired of spending most of their game time supporting semi-casual or multi server players, we made a change and formed BOB. This was a deliberate choice. Nemesis had grown to 9 branches with 600 members (about half of which could be considered active). Our idea was to consolidate lean and mean with the actives only and provide some measure of instate security for the semi-cas players simply by controlling the states we were in (although we would no longer automatically port to their aid).
Some of the Nemesis branches felt there was nothing wrong with the status quo. In the end, rather than forming 2 groups, BOB was formed with 40 daily active players and ranked 7 on the server - we took quality over quantity.
Over the course of the next 6 months BOB grew a bit - the most notable example being the merge with Madness, in which we picked up a State, but more importantly GreenGiant and his combat team. But we were bloated a bit again with some casuals.
In Spring of 2012, it became apparent that the number of actives in our coalition (RugRats, PHNX, BOB) did not support three separate alliances. Rather than try to convince PHNX or RR to give up their identity, we decided to let go of BOB and lend our strength elsewhere. Many of the officers were even looking to some time as a simple members. We had made 2 strikes at 0,0 as BOB, with PHNX and RR support, but we were ready for a change.
RR had limited spots, but PHNX was willing to accommodate all actives. We also identified more with PHNX play style and BQ's leadership style so off we went to PHNX.
But really PHNX didn't "get" us, like we were wandering in the wilderness. Every merge and change our group made was a conscious and deliberate choice. I believe it was our flexibility and willingness to reinvent ourselves that has keep the server fresh for us for all this time, and I personally am satisfied with the work I did in every alliance I've been in on 32.
I am also very glad PHNX had the space for us. It was truly a good fit. When Nemesis was 6 branches controlling 2 states, PHNX was still battling for thier first - but in the end its PHNX on top. I think its important to acknowledge that BQ really did a bang up job creating an alliance that negotiated the windy road of this server. I am glad to be part of her team.

We were genuinely hoping for reds to counter-port to attack us. In fact, I was one of the guys who was waiting for enemy war cities to show up so I could clear them however when it was clear that they weren't coming, I ported and joined in on hitting Atlantis directly.
