    Default Seminal Films-Agree or Disagree?

Seminal:Highly influential in an original way; constituting or providing a basis for further development.

I was hoping this thread could run parallel to the favourite film one. I have given the meaning of seminal not because I think anyone is stupid but I don't want to confuse it with bodily fluids and I would like the definition kept in mind when quoting examples.

Here's how it works, put your case forward for a 'must see' movie, the kind of movie you just HAVE to see before you die and the reasons why. You don't have to even like the film (I have many such examples) and then other posters can debate whether they agree or disagree.

For example The Shawshank Redemption (as mentioned a couple of times already) has that almost undefinable quality as a film, perhaps not as gritty as some prison flicks but has a mix of courage, injustice, payback, fantastic performances etc etc...an obvious seminal movie.

    You get the idea.

As a footnote...I hosted a movie review forum for several years which in the end I closed due to trolls and flame wars, so keep it nice. Unless of course you cite an Adam Sandler Film then you only have yourself to blame.

    Have at you.

This is much more of a personal review for a must see film.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

WOW - Where do I start on this legendary film, which in my opinion is number 1

Sergio Leone's grand EPIC western is deemed the third and final film of the dollars trilogy, although technically speaking they are only purely a trilogy because of there similar nature of story lines, settings, actors used etc etc

The opening quarter of the movie, isn't heavily story based, it's mainly providing you with the back drop of who the characters are and what we can expect of them.

Although it is clear who is who, pretty early on, the film does give you some surprises throughout.

All 3 main actors have been superbly cast and the shooting on location and directing from Sergio Leone is absolutely beautiful.

A shout out has to go to the fantastic Ennio Morricone, the music throughout this film from beginning to end, is the best and most appropriate I have ever heard in a film.

The main storyline gives some great shoot outs and some great action provided by the American civil war back drop, the fact that there are 3 main actors also gives the film a cunning edge as it keeps you wondering how many sides there actually are, and who is on who's side, another great viewpoint as opposed to just good guy/bad guy scenario.

At around the 3 hour mark, some people may say this is too long, but make no mistake, this is a must watch film, there have been hundreds of westerns down the ages, and Clint Eastwood aside the only ones that have got my attention have been the Magnificent Seven films, considering Eastwood has starred in (from a quick google) 13 western movies (please let me know if this is wrong) I rate this the best, but please go and watch others they are all great

I would of loved to write a full review of this film but didn't want a HUGE SPOILER slap bang in the middle of this forum, without exaggerating I have seen this particular film well over a hundred times it is the best of the best.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WATCH IF YOU ALREADY HAVEN'T.

No complaints here with that one, thoroughly agree with your whole post.

For me it cemented Clint as one of the kings of cool.

Which itself has led my train of thought to Back to the Future..which I think probably is a seminal film too. More thought needed on that.
