    Default Attacking 5k/compact defence

    Hello gurus,

I've been playing around on Evocalc trying to figure out the black art of battle mechanics.

I can't find a single situation where it's better to hit a layered defence with traps and abs taken out.

The simulations I've run were variations of attacks using mostly ranged units. E.g. 90k arch, 90k balls, 80k bali/10k pults.

From the simulations I've run, the 5k range forced by traps/abs helps attacking in the following way: the longer distance for defending troops to hit the attackers means that the different layers' speeds causes the layers to spread out by the time they hit the attackers. This means the attackers can take out each layer one by one as they enter range, rather than having the same number of rounds to clear multiple layers.

    1. Is evocalc accurate with that? (Is what I've said rubbish?)

    2. When is taking out traps/abatis a good idea? When??

I'm in the top alliance of my server, and the members always say take out traps/abs first, so I'm wondering wtf!

    Thanks

    1. Don't use evocalc, use dxcalc.

    2. 5k defense (so long as techs are all 10) you can easily take it down with archbows or typical mech waves.

    3. A compact D, you send archbows or mech to first knock out the AT's. Then the archbows/mech/whatever hits their mech/arch. Once all they have left is layering troops, send a mech wave to come home with no losses.

It's easier to kill a 5k. Or you could just have lots of cav and just clear the CD that way. Tis what I personally like to do. Some laugh because I carry an absurd amount of cav, but they are very useful and expendable cav are nice.

evocalc has horrible damage calculations, but its useful to map out troop movements.

dxcalc is the way to go for accuracy

Sometimes forcing someone into compact defense outweighs the benefits of 5k ranged attacks although those 2-3 million troop kills against attack heroes are epic.

If somebody has 88 million warriors and 10 million layers yet only 10 million archers are you going to sit around and fool with his layers? No.

If they know what they're doing the first thing they will do is remove all the cav phract pike and sword. Then they will use a feeder city to layer in whatever is needed to keep the incoming wave off the archers. Hitting a 5k is harder if there online and know what there doing where as compact is a better defense if your offline because it forces every battle to at most 1 round hitting your archers with the attacking troops and you lose no layers or very little.

to take that out in 5k defence, a lot of scout bombs and s-mechs. done. timed very well.
to take that out in Compact Defence, 1 ram, 3 phract smacks. done. timed very well.
