You will be back here screaming because people that coin stars to 15 and run on vestas 24/7 have big armies and are porting around stomping on you - and you can't do anything about it without spending thousands lol.

    Really though, Dawnseeker...

What about reducing the troop hit point value for defense above a defined limit. It starts going backwards. Make 100 m archers killable. Some players hoard incredible numbers to keep their stuff "safe" and never kill anything. The PVP players that love to go kill stuff aren't going to go hit something with 100 m archers, because we don't want to sit still, build alts and hoard up enough to kill it! I would have to save FOREVER to get enough, and I don't want to need such a large army. So, the hoarders grow and grow way beyond what any real player is ever going to hit. Now, if those 100 m archers die a lot faster than the average sized account...it will take away the incentive to stack them up so high, and people like myself will port over and knock them around because it won't be like hitting my head on a wall.

Easy steps to fix the issue

    1. Eliminate food upkeep. Require food only to train troops/move them.
    2. Eliminate governor. This was a good idea but has resulted in nothing but the creation of thousands of voting alts and players endlessly upping loy when attacked.
    3. To address multiple accts keep ip ban and block commercial proxy servers. Reduce time to train troops. Possibly allow instant heroes as Age 1 has. Limit the number of colonies a player can have to 10. This will not eliminate it but will put a major dent in it.
    4. For promos instead of free food offer a healing buff. Evony has done this in the past and it encourages pvp.
    5. Prevent new accounts from being created on a server once a new one comes out. These are almost always alts.

Part of the fun of the game is fighting with massive armies. Do not change that aspect of the game. Also another idea I have that will bring a frsh new aspect to the game and help Evony make additional revenue is to release some new HH each month. Would be fun seeing everyone race to get them once they built up some. Also this will give players who don't coin massive sums a chance to get a good hero.

Dawnseeker said the issue is with a single player running many bots.. so why does evony not find a solution for this by letting players bot max 20 accounts? or 10 accounts per IP? Anyone that wants to go around that rule gets a ban. Easy as that.

Very good point about the governor in age II, if one thing spurs the making of alts, it's the governor.

I have played Evony since it was Civony, played on all new servers - s1, s2 etc and have been playing constantly since then. In my opinion botting has derailed the initial intentions of the game but has become an essential part of it now on all established servers. I sold all my accounts several months ago but still play on a new server and I don't bot anymore (only good if you are a masochist).
My idea for overcoming this blight on the game is :
Why not leave everything as is - botters can enjoy the massive armies, dozens of alts and the lag they have created (not to mention the constant burden on many computers) and start a new server where every possible avenue is used to prevent botting and multi accounting with instant bans implemented.
That should keep everyone happy, and be a great experiment to see how many people prefer playing Evony in the manner it was intended

Does ANYONE remember the days before botting?? It was far more fun way to play...we didnt have ridiculous troop counts or billions/trillions of ressies but we managed just fine.....

Botting has 4 purposes off the top of my head. Farm for food. Farm for Medals. Make troops. Defend.

My hope is that you get rid of the bots, lessen the need for farming or let us schedule it, give us an easier way to get medals, and give us some type of offline alert when being attacked.

I have been playing for over four years and the most fun I had was in the first 18 months.

But you have to get rid of ALL the bots or we are back to square one, having to bot to keep up with the botters

That will be the problem. After reading several threads and posts, and talking with some very tech savvy players, I dont know if Evony can eliminate all botting. It will be an everyday challenge for sure because bot developers are out to make money too. But what it boils down to is eliminating the multi-accounting I think. Making subtle changes to the game (lowering food consumption for troops, alternate ways to find medals) would help eliminate the need to multi-account. If this is the route they take, I hope they dont change the important aspects of the game and game mechanics. And in all seriousness, I wish they would do whatever they are going to do soon, so I know how to proceed with playing the game Haha.

Dealing with the botting issue for good and all will mean dealing with how armies are supported. The root of the problem is the current upkeep system.
No the root of the problem is the current repetitive tasks that you expect people to do manually day after day, year after year. Same exact clicks 100-200 times a day, every day just to maintain the account until you can actually battle and have fun. Can you not see that? People didn't turn to the bot to build big armies.. They turned to it to eliminate the repetitive tasks. The big armies grew from that. You need to identify the problem at the source, not the current symptoms. My first server was way, way back long before the bot days so I have seen the whole thing evolve.

    at least IMHO.
