My idea to fix evony, in another thread, DawnSeeker mentioned that with so many bots, that it requires more and more server capacity to run and most alt accounts don't get coined, so revenue is going down but expenses aren't going up (bad for a business), I understand that, here's my idea.
0) Keep on allowing bots on the older servers, any newer servers get the bot free technology
1) Evony should allocate server "space" to each server based on what they've spent. So if my server spends $1000 in the past 3 months than we should get a certain % back as allocated server space (for fun lets say 75% or whatever evony needs to stay profitable), so then whatever processing power $750 over 3 months can get you, that's what we get... if it's not enough... then well we have a ton of lag... evony lets us know this policy as well, then we can't complain about lag (most won't like it since evony is free forever, but people should understand you're a business), plus with that as a policy... spending should increase as well meaning that you can allocate more and there should be less lag
2) No new accounts on ss, since they are "botting" servers and you don't want new players to join a "botting" server anyway, they will have to join one of the newer non-botting servers... and this prevents people from making a ton more noob accounts
3) Evony quits storing the data on dead accounts that are sent to oblivion... you get 2 days to re-log... if you don't then poof your city is gone forever (clears up processing speed)
4) any account banned and still in holiday gets unbanned... so we can send those to oblivion... again less useless storage since those accounts aren't ever going to be run, or evony can just remove them from the map too
5) Most important IMO (this I think would be the major fix), set merging goals... right now there is no real "goal" in evony. Set a goal of something like once you are under 20k cities on your map, you get merged in the next 1-2 months.... a) people would send all dead accounts to oblivion, clears space, evony won't have to keep that data (and dead accounts don't pay anything) b) some servers likely would reset some non-paying alts just to get a merge c) I think most important... servers would self-police themselves (people playing each server knows what happens on that server the best).
What I mean by self-police, if there's guys that run 200-300 accounts (that's likely 2k cities), they'd become bigger targets for everyone else to get closer to a merge. Deals may be cut to get rid of these guys since they're running 10% of the cities needed for a merge (right now most servers goal is a merge at some point).
Now each server knows who coins and doesn't coin too, and since lag is based on spending (and we as customers know that since evony makes that a policy), the guy with 200 bots and 7-8 mains who spends $1k a month on evony likely wouldn't be targeted as much as the guy who runs 200 bots just so he doesn't have to coin, since the coiner is helping to prevent lag but the non-coiner is harming everyone on the server... the "free-loader" who isn't coining is who evony most wants to target with the new bot banning rule changes and the best way to target them is have players do it for you, and this way they'd become the biggest targets
Some servers likely won't change much (low coining, same amount of cities) but they'd just be "stuck" as they currently are and likely get more and more lag (their own fault)... other servers would cut back on alts, get rid of the free loaders, get a merge with another server who undertook the same policies... fight it out there (what the game is meant for) kill off some enemies, remove some more freeloaders and actually "progress" almost like a tournament of champions (have less and less botting servers) ... and the servers who "progress" likely will have less lag as well, less people free-loading and more people who spend meaning more server allocation.
-Why evony should do it... bots have become a part of evony (sad but true), they've basically been allowed for 2-3 years with no reprucussions. Banning them now, you will lose a ton of players and you need the players to help pay your bills or if you get revenue from advertising, you need their numbers to say this is how many people log into our game per day... if you lose 80% or more of your player base (I think you would if you find a way to prevent all bots and people don't find work arounds), then you lose revenue on both fronts... this way you can slowly wean your way out of bots and gives a people who want to play bot free servers to play on
