    I honestly still think "scout bomb" as someone named it is still the best way to knock a town down to size if you really just have to take it.

    Of course a well proportioned attack afterwards is still necessary, but you can do this more cheaply than suiciding tons of insanely expensive horse units, and then let the horse units mop up afterwards.

    Wow, I really don't know this game anymore. Thought I had a handle on it. What stops a cav or cat from reaching its target, the archers?
    What stops them is the range. Horses ride approximately 1500 distance units, however with wall buffs and whatnot, battle starts at either 2300+ or 5000 (I'm still not sure which sadly), meaning that your horses cannot make it in one round to the archers, so they ride forward, and when they meet an opponent they can attack, they stop and do so. This will be the mobile meatshields, not the immobile archers. Ah, and below kassikas surmization is also very likely correct. "Value-targetting" as I call it.
