A "troop sink" is commonly referred to as battles. Until, players of all stripes are forced into battle, armies can grow almost indefinitely.

The end-game is there, but you have to look at the bigger picture. One alliance control over a state... then one alliance control, period.

The idea of these being symptoms reminds me of something... I can't quite put my finger on it... Oh, yeah, kassikas, you blasted me in another thread for essentially the same ideas. lol I tell ya, monkies are growing on trees these days.

Evony is a business. It exists to make money, not to entertain us.

The idea is to have a war game in which people fight each other, and buy 'boosters' of various types to give them an edge. NPC's are intended to be more of a side game that somehow ended up being the focus.

If you play counterstrike, you don't all run around being polite to each other while gathering all the pickups you can. You fight ! You shoot guy in the head and feel good about it. The same is meant to apply here. Stop playing simcity, get out there and fight somebody.

Some call it griefing, the dev's probably call it ' the game as its meant to be played.' Keep on fighting, spend a few bucks on boosters every now and then.

The pity is that with so much potential, they haven't managed to get their formula right yet, as is very clearly shown in the posts above.

Kempion,I hate to disagree but I do.A goal of one alliance control over an entire server is tantamount to no goal at all,so unlikely and unreachable it is.This just points to an old,old lesson.A constant state of war is insustainable in the long run,no matter where.Or in what "universe".I don't believe there HAS to be an end game, but perhaps a widening of the game experience.

Wildor, I can accept your point as long as it is strictly in game terms because wars are sustainable in the real world. Most, if not all, wars are are waged for profit and, therefore, must be sustained as long as possible.

That said, in game terms, wars must be sustained as well. I understand the resistence to log on everyday and simply pillage one's neighbors. I think there is much more which could be done in the way of adding depth to the game. I even went as far as submitting a "free" idea for some continuous activities to give players other objectives (what we call on the other side "keep players playing.")

Age 2 will, hopefully, add depth - which takes more than a month to traverse.

Most? After playing, EQ and WoW to the limits of going stupid, I am convinced most players seek OP status and griefery (if not asshattery.)

Exactly what I have in mind when I speak of widening the game experience. And remember,I said a constant state of war is unsustainable in the long run.

This isn't counter strike. A closer analogy would be Call of duty Modern Combat or world at war. Unlike CS, you advance your character.

Like CoD4, you do it best by killing a whole lot of people. Thats why CoD4 is a much better game then CS.

The problem comes when you run out of advancement, and have nothing left to do but shoot noobs. Thats when you take CoD - World of War back to game stop and pick up Overlord 2.

It is the online game with the most content. It's a game filled with bells and whistles.

Evony is new. If the developers worked on an "expansion" for it and added immersion such as a storyline, sidequests, achievements and worked in the ability to make special units only acquired from these quests, then there wouldn't be the whole "endgame" issue.

Right on. If the game had more features other than build to the max, dominate your small area, then get bored, there wouldn't be as much flack right now.
