Rebalance the walls! I have a simple and easy solution.
I do agree that defenders should have somewhat an advantage when it comes to defense and walls should add a passive bonus, but the 5% range buff per level is just too overbalanced atm. currently you can send as many troops as you can and the defenders will lose almost no troops due to the range advantage.
A simple and easy fix, maybe not long term, but to make attacking viable again is to instead of giving 5% more range per wall level, make it 5% more defense per wall lvl.
With this change lvl 10 walls will add 50% more defense to their troops. This change will give defenders a good advantage but not godlike mode that the 50% more range does atm.
This will stack additively with ironworking for a total of 100% defense bonus with maxed out ironworking and maxed out walls.
This will also have the good side effect of making cataphracts powerful in defense due to their natural high base armor, and make it worth their food upkeep/build time.
