Thread: Hate to beat a dead horse but wtf devs? Why even allow us to attack other players?

I'm a bit confused, why do you break out a bunch of faulty theorycrafting if you say you've been breaking down strong players all day long?

    Just link some battle reports.

Why I say your theorycrafting is faulty:

Say a defender has 200k archers, 50k ballis, 12k ATs (I'm using the given numbers, if you want to change them thats your call), lvl10 arch, and lvl10 walls... he has the equivalent of lvl20 archery on all of those, so...

    Defender:
    200k archers w/ 2400 range
    12k ATs w/ 2600 range
    50k ballis w/ 2800 range

You state your attack as 110k archers and 15k ballis

    Attacker:

    110k arches w/ 1800 range
    15k ballis w/ 2100 range

The defending archers outrange the attacking archers by 600. Even with compass 10 giving the attacking archers a speed of 400 that's a minimum of 1 free round of shots from the defenders.

200k archers will kill roughly 100k archers in one round (I dont feel like looking up the combat formula thread right now). So all the attacking archers are dead just from the defending archers, leaving only the poor ballistas, which are STILL outranged by the archers by themselves to slowly inch up to their doom.

Instead of whatever defense you calculated killing, you've actually killed nothing.
Not sure why we're even debating that however, when in the very first battle report of this thread 125k archers kill nothing. Dont need theory for that now do we?

More importantly show a way to defeat a somewhat reasonably defended town where this can happen:

No losses. Not a single one. And that is just a town that I T-ported to a new state to have a little fun with. It takes hours to reinforce it from my home cities, though a few allies can reinforce it a bit with cities they t-ported to the same state with. It is insane. When you can defeat 360k troops coming at you with not a single loss, you know there is something wrong with the battle mechanics.

Thats what massed level 20 ballista do. When you got that kind of range advantage, nothing closes.

Anything that has the life to last a few waves doesn't have the speed. Anything with the speed can be killed by closing your gates.

I tend to think that this game, to a large extent, reflects the practicalities of medieval warfare. The whole point of large walls, is that they are easily defended, by potentially far fewer numbers than those of an attackers. The notes above about siege weapons hold true. I can think of few medieval conflicts where archers knocked a hole in a wall by battering into it with their faces. Yes this defeat hurts, but it really shouldnt be unexpected. You want to go through walls, siege weapons are a must.

Wow, I seriously lol'd at 0 losses. I woulda quit if I sent a full battle wave and killed z-e-r-o guys. Sux for those guys. I cant wait to take over this lvl 10 barb town on serv 14, I'm gonna port it into the heaviest concentration of players I can find and pester people in the hopes that they suicide against my walls of death.

God, stop, just stop it. Someone already brought up the "oh this is like real life" argument, and someone else already rebuffed it. It's a terrible argument, doesn't address actual game mechanics, and when was the last time a real medieval fief lord having 1million troops at his command sent 100,000 to their assured deaths, while the remaining 900,000 idled until the first 100,00 died, and THEN sent 100,000 more?

Dude! the 100K archers alone and the 1's stacking doesnt work anymore, you have to send an army...

Heh, like your sig. Makes me want to write one about the differences between - your and you're - and - there, their, and they're -

*sigh* the internet is the death of grammar and spelling.

Danke. I've made my peace with your/you're and there/their/they're, I'm not even going to fight that fight, but I just don't understand lose and loose. They're not even homonyms like the other cases, and it happens so often as to just boggle my mind. Somehow people also seem to be beginning to replace loose with lose now as well. It's like the internet has somehow managed to get those two words switched with each other. Just amazes me.

Thumbs down Maybe they want us to just squabble about it....

ROFL. How easy is it to stray from the point of the original post; nothing to do with 'Realism', or 'strategy', or 'having a full rainbow', or 'close and far ranged troops', and DEFINATELY not grammar of rhyming words... Forget it! It wouldn't matter if you sent 500k rams and 750k arch, you will only scratch the helmet of a few defenders.... the POINT is-:
    YOU CANT CONQUER IT!!!
Call me pessimistic but this game makes oodles from dudes who like to buy adv. teleports who drop in and then runaway the first time they get sizeable incoming, but now..... they can just stay as long as they like!
It's the same with the lvl ten stuff; you gotta buy it (mick scripts), same with no building queues, when you get tired of doing 40 3 minute builds; you gotta buy it (speed ups).
If this potentially wonderful game wasn't totally stuffed from brainless moronic greedy developers by bugs, lags, glitches, dropouts and a total divorce from anything remotely 'REAL'; then there may be some point in throwing a few dollars at it.
I'm really only logging in still out of pure curiousity, couple more weeks to see that none of the most glaringly ridiculous things are fixed then....
Can anyone suggest a good game thats ready for several thousand paying customers? Maybe we could start a poll for that.......
