While most of your post makes intelligent arguments (some of which I happen to disagree with, obviously), this one's a little silly. Alienating some the top players will not attract more paying customers than would have come otherwise, and an intelligent business doesn't make moves that lose them 1% of their paying customers with no possible gain. You'll never see Hershey saying "if we change the recipe of one of our chocolate bars, we won't save any money and the chocolate won't taste any better, but at least we'll lose a million customers. Let's do it! After all, we're bound to gain more customers eventually!"

People make your sort of "if you don't like it, leave" argument frequently. While it's a satisfying thing to say from a player's standpoint, it's a very bad business model.

Chino they shouldn't have taken all pres away that took over a month to get, just the pres that was gained by the barbs. The reaction was entirely to harsh, period.

I remember none other than Dawnseeker proclaiming in this forum:

"If you want to be honorable, then be honorable."

The implied statement is, if you want to be dishonorable, then you are also allowed to be dishonorable.

Discovering exploits and utilizing them IS part of playing a computer game, sportsmanship or not. Some may argue it to be dishonorable but until the game code addresses it, no one can predict if the programmers believe this is "Cheating" or a legitimate way to build your prestige. Though I did not practice this exploit, I strongly disagree resetting these player's prestige to zero. If they found the exploit, good for them. In fact developers should be grateful that these players tested their system and finding it out as they perfect their product.

While I think that taking 100% of their prestige before giving them a well-in-advance announcement is poor service, their reaction will almost certainly mean that no one in the right mind would do something that could remotely be perceived as an exploit in fear of getting punished. That, is worth way more to me than seeing people who did this exploit punished. They cannot rescind the punishment now, or the fear factor in the future will be gone.

You have no frickin' idea how many games I've played with my guild in which we decided not to do something that was quite obviously exploitative only to see it continue for 3 more weeks and end up with the devs fixing the problem without punishing those who massively profitted from it. Even the newer players with high prestige who recently joined, 100%, every single person, in my alliance managed to figure out that suiciding weak soldiers to inflate your prestige was extremely obviously unintended, and as such not one person got punished for it. I'm glad that, even though people are upset at it being a bit of a cheap shot, no one in the right mind will try to do anything suspicious anymore, in my eyes thats worth the meaningless stat of prestige anyway.

it may have been a part of teh game but it was a part of teh game that you "EXPLOITED" in order to give your selves an unfair advantage, and you would have been able to do all you needed to do with your prestige if you had not "EXPLOITED" teh games programing you tried to cheat teh other players on your server and this is your just deserts.

Or plain and simple the game did it so it is the dev's problem not ours. Finding out what the game does and using it to your advantage is playing the game, not cheating. This is NOT a case of someone altering the game, hacking, blah blah. If this would have happened to me I'd be more than a bit upset. They better watch themselves before the words "class action lawsuit" are uttered too many times because the fact is that this "exploit" was 100% within dev-controlled parameters.

Thumb's up for putting all the fakers prestige down to a big FAT zero, best thing Evony and the devs have done so far. Cheers.

Well considering the fact that it appears the people that created this game dont even play it or test it or anything...if you find an exploit, please don't put it out in the public, lol. Btw there are no cheats in this game! So calling someone a cheater here is pretty stupid.

Oh adding on...we are most definately not cheaters for figuring this game out...but apparantly we are criminals for doing so!
