the information u get is determined buy alot of diferent things
in the way of what u have its ur beacon tower and informatics
the detail will decrease if their informatics, beacon tower and scouts r better than urs!!
so with a valley there is really no way to determin the lvl of detail u will get

Int of hero leading the scouting trip also has an effect.
tried this is lvl9 valley.

int 35 hero gives vague description of the numbers, int 75 hero gives actual numbers.

Horde: 100 – 249
Throng: 250 – 499
Swarm: 500 – 999
Zounds: 1,000 – 2499
Legion: 2500 – 4999

I tried sending them to a lvl 10 square and I got back a blank report. So it must be that armies can be out of your scouting range.

If the lvl of the area you're scouting is higher than your informatics, you get a blank report. If it is equal to your lvl of informatics, you get a vague report (zounds, hordes, etc.). If your informatics are higher than the lvl of the area you're scouting, you'll get exact numbers
