Thread: The Devs Ruined Scouts -OR- The Devs Fixed Scouts?

Yes, another lovely undocumented feature. They mentioned it in the patch notes in the "coming soon" section - but with all the hoopla over the NPCs I think it went unnoticed.

I emailed Dawnseeker and Thalin 4 hours ago asking them to respond to this - and nothing so far. Once again, the devs are ruining the game for people who use strategy. Battle and scouting must be too hard on the servers, and they want us to sit in our cities all day doing nothing.

This is extremely discouraging. It can remove the element of surprise during a pivoting time in wars. I hope they make defending scouts work again some day soon.

The developers have really got this wrong now.
How do they think players are going to respond?
I am thinking every small player will now be targeted as going up against anyone with
a decent size army and some defences is too high risk if you are unsure if their gates are open or closed.
The defence increases made it a difficult proposition, this change makes it a suicide run.
So now I guess we just pick off the new players because the big players are untouchable.

On a second point, scouts in my town were my second line of defence.
Prestige was my first line of defence but as the exploiters got their prestige back, I guess that means nothing anymore.
Not being able to tell when I have been scouted means that I can't prepare for a possible attack ahead of time.
Strategy is going out of the game, now it is just eat the weak.
I hate having to write a negative post like this but these changes are just making no sense any more.

This can only happen if the other player has you completely outclassed in informatics and beacon tower.

Well, that's somewhat good news, but I still maintain my arguments against this. When I first came out of beginners protection, my only defense was that I had tons of scouts in all of my cities, as well as being in a well-known alliance. If any player with higher informatics and etc. comes up and is able to scout me regardless of my scout defenses, just because he's been playing longer, he'd know I was just bluffing. Really it's just furthering harm on low level players. I'd still like to see this reversed.

You do realize that pretty much all the loyal evony players on my server have level 10 infomatics and at least lv 9 beacons? We are all on a level playing field in terms of beacons and research at this point in the game. The devs have completely destroyed the purpose of scouts and eliminated an interesting aspect of strategy in this game.

Why does this game continue to get worse under the guise of "development"?

Even hypothetically players all don't have level 10 informatics yet, it is one of the cheapest and quickest technologies to research. So if Scouts aren't literally completely worthless yet, they will soon be because most players I know research the easiest things first. This is how Evony is supposed to work? Really??

It sounds like Evony doesn't expect or want people to play this game longer than two weeks. This scout war basically ruins the game for people who have spent time (and possibly money) on completing their research and beacon building.

They must want to get rid of their loyal player base with these terrible changes that we are still not properly informed about. The patch notes were not clear enough on this change.

I have to agree. The main point is that the informatics technology is not even an end game technology as it is both cheap and fast to obtain (as well as necessary to scout other players).

At that stage, whats the point of maintaining a scout army? Since in most cases the credible threats would succeed with a single scout, and probably the only ones that fail are the ones that are at 1/10th your prestige and pose no threat.
