Hate to tell you you're wrong. But you're wrong! Muahahhaha.

It originated from the hardcore punk movement in Washington D.C. Yes, we're not talking about true punk like Ramones, but we're talking about the newer punk.

There are a lot of bands out there that blend punk and emo. Senses Fail is one I can think off the top of my head. There's much more.

Heck My Chemical Romance is a big one that is punk and emo. They have a real distinct style derived out of it, kind of operatic theater music, but I can see both the punk and emo in it.

    Because it is.

    This is more punk but...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb8VPYMgHlg

    Irrelevant that it's hardstyle.
How is that punk in any way? That sounds more like rave music.

    *Ahem*

Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Ozzy Ozbourne, Black Sabbath, ACDC, Alice Cooper, Apocalyptica.

Just a few artists I enjoy.

Oh, the occasional Journey song, like Wheel in the Sky.

You people who support emo are so wrong. What these bands are part of is what popular media likes to call "pop-punk", even though they are not punk in any way. They're just a bunch of crybabies who like to complain to the world about their problems in the form of music instead of getting actual help.

    EDIT:

Amen to that Demonhero, even though those bands are metal and Journey is rock.

You're just falling into the same view as pop culture.

Plenty of emo bands that aren't crybabies.

And listen to anything rock. Heavy metal was formed as the result of an anti-establishment movement. So there's a lot of complaining there.

Let's not make this a hate thread. Let's keep this a love thread. Love the music

Also give me +rep for proving you wrong

Music is music, stop trying to label it, and just enjoy it.

At least metal bands don't usually complain in a sissy whining way or are complaining about losing their girlfriend or getting dumped. Here's an example of what metal complains about: "You think I'm weird I'LL KILL YOU" *roar* *crazy guitar solo* *awesomeness*
