Scouts ignore/are ignored by EVERYTHING except traps and other scouts. This is why it's intelligent to leave them out of the meat shield. Unless you're using them to save one archer from a trap (maybe), in which case, it's a brilliant idea.

If this weren't the case, then their 3k speed would have them across the board, hand to hoof with cavs every time.

Unrelatedly, this is a question, and probably belongs in the H&Q section...

    ^^-- Wrong.

As for the explanation, I do not know for sure, but given the usual battle mechanics it should be something like this:

Defenders move up, scout runs across field to go toe to toe with archers/ballis (the only units that do not move up). Archers however are given priority target to the opposing archers (since no traps in play) first over the single scout. So mr. one scout sits around hacking away with his 20 damage with no one to kill him all battle.

EDIT: The part about it belonging in H&Q was actually correct, sorry.

Impossible, there are Abs, assuming of course that one of the three common theories on battle start location are correct. If both armies start 5000 units away from each other, the scout would be the only unit in range of any defender on the field.

Even if the 5000 unit theory is incorrect, then the attacking army would have to be start in range of both the ballista and the archers, in order for both the ballista and the archers to ignore the scout. Otherwise ranged units would have to ignore targets within their range of attack in preference of units outside their range. I.E failing to attack units damaging them so they can pick their nose a turn.

And if that was true, most of the wall range buff would be rendered pointless by the fact that battles do not start far enough away for it to be a benefit. Additionally, sending mass catapults would provide cover for archers swarms, because defending units wouldn't attack archers and ballista in range, so they could pick their noses while they wait for catapults to come into range. Rams might do the same thing, not quite sure.

    On top of that....

Never mind hehe, for this to be true, most of commonly accepted battle mechanic hypothesis would have to be incorrect.

The far more likely answer is that scouts, like transporters, do not advance unless everything else on the field is dead. Thus including a scout in your rainbow is as useful as including a transporter.

This would also explain why defending scouts do not stop the scout bomb.

All this leads to a far more important question: Why in the name of fish are there three commonly accepted theories on the distance units start from each other? How come people have to guess about a unit's behavior in battle. Can you picture the scene that must play out in the land of Evony?

Underling: My Lord, I have the casualty statistics for the latest battle.
Commander: Thank you underling, when can I expect the after action report?
Underling: Sorry my lord, that information is classified.
Commander: Classified..? I am a feudal lord. My word is law. I own the people in these cities, they are my freaking surfs. Who gets this information?
Underling: Erm... Umm... Oh I know! The Gods My Lord, some information is not for us mere mortals.
Commander: So I just have to make guesses based on casualty reports?
Underling: The Gods work in mysterious ways My Lord.
Commander: Can I ... Go watch some of the battles?
Underling: No My lord, but you can send out several men to their deaths in order to experiment. After several experiments you might be able to form a generalized hypothesis about the basics of battle.
Commander: So after action reports are a sin, and watching battles is a sin, but sending men to die uselessly to obtain incomplete information is A-okay?
    Underling: Yes My Lord.
Commander: Fine then, send one archer to die. Then send one archer and one scout to die. Tell me if the second battle takes slightly longer then the first.
Underling: A righteous solution My Lord. May the gold farmers in the heavens bless you with much buffs, and no nerfs.
