    Sorry Bubbels!

But I suppose at this point it's kind of moot - the devs have admitted (and players' experiences would seem to corroborate) the medal drop rates on the new servers is different from that of the older servers. So whether it's different versions of the code (booo!), or different values in a config file, the values are different.

No prob. Your example is excellent.

Not saying you're wrong as neither of us really can prove it, but I still disagree with you... the term "global settings" will effect all users on every server in the domain, hense the term "global".

If you are changing things on 1 server its called local settings separate from the rest of the chain.

These servers we play on are nothing more than huge datebases collecting tons of info and the info is most likely stored in a huge redundant raid system. If something crashes that server is going to reload and pull the main code for the game from the domain controller and it is then going to look for data from the raid/storage system for that particular server where all the data files are.

Im not saying its impossible to have different drop rates per server, just highly unlikely...

I also must have missed that post where they said they changed the drop rates again... but i am going to look for it now.

    Hey Praaktis,

Hey dude, I'm not in the mood to pick apart your post on how Evony's back-end systems may have been architected, because you seem like an alright guy and I don't want to start a flame war about how Evony's chicken wire and duct-tape systems were configured. (As if anyone would want to get into an argument defending that.) But I will say a few things:

First, yes, there is obviously a database component to Evony. However, that does not mean that you'd store static information like drop rates in that database. Those values could be stored locally in a configuration file.

Domain Controllers handle authentication for Windows systems. I'm not sure why you'd think the source code would be pulled from the domain controller, especially since it's highly likely that the server code runs as a binary. And, for what it's worth, I'd bet they're probably running under LINUX instead of MS. (If they aren't then that's just more chicken wire for ya.)

And lastly, they've already said they've changed the drop rates on some of the servers, so as I mentioned earlier all this is kind of moot: different servers do have different configuration values.

Praaktis.. we are splitting hairs on terms. For me a global setting is something that lives in a config file or some other globally accessible area to the instance of the application code. Local settings is something that lives inside the class.

Each server can and does have its own instance of global settings. It has been proven.

yes Sdog... and i agree with you. Those variables can def be stored locally in a config file... and its all moot and dont want to argue about it anymore either.

But where is this original post that the devs said they changed the drop rate on newer servers?

i just want to read it... I've been seaching and haven't found it yet.

    Anyone have it?

The forums are filled with posts like:

I have not found the official Evony response nor do I think that it exists. I doubt they would confess to it. But responses from players on sever 10 and below is enough for anyone to raise an eyebrow.

Dawnseeker posted on this a few days ago and a mod linked to it in one of the other threads on this topic. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I stand corrected. Forgot about the key word of "New" in that post.
