It doesn't help that the military has a lovely little habit. They call it "testing". It starts with the ASVAB and moves on from there. They pick out the smartest and brightest of their recruits and move them into positions of wielding dangerous objects like pens, computer mice, and occasionally a penlight. Then they take the people who couldn't hack the tests and add them in with the infantry classes and give them fun and harmless little toys like rifles, grenades, and AT-4's.
Please don't take this as a slam on our infantry....I think MOST of the ones I have met are quite intelligent. Unfortunately, if there IS a Forrest Gump in the training class, he's gonna end up in there with them instead of driving a desk.
