Well, the robots would realize they could sustain themselves without us, and grow to become so advanced they would eliminate us.

It's like the matrix, except the Humans don't last any longer then five years.
I dissagre this assumes that computers are ever capibule of creative thought, I doubt they will ever be able to be so they could never take over the earth.

If we have artificial intelligence, then it would be modeled after mankind's intelligence.

And, mankind has always eliminated threats. Mankind would be a threat to all AI, because we would eventually make them obsolete. So, they would act as the creators, and eliminate the threat to their existence.

If they had the Three Rules, thn they would stop any kind of killing of a human. If any rules are broken, then they die. The rules leave no loop-holes for killing a human.

    1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

    2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

    3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
I have heard flaming shots are fun. Anyone want to try?

Well, again this assumes that it is possible to so program them, but aside form that they would be doing tasks that we could not/ did not want to do, how would we make them obsoleate, and how would we be a threat? if anything it seems like we would give them a reason for being. Also if we could create robotes that thought like humans are you saying there would be no room for compation?

    Don't quote sci-fi at me.
It's possible for machines to by-pass their programming, as REAL LIFE has dictated.

Do you mean compassion, or competition?
As a collective group, mankind shows little compassion, but competition has often resulted in wars.

True, it would be quite difficult to program such a thing, if it were remotely possible, but mankind has always found something to replace something else.
Punch card computers for example, they were a marvel of their time. Obsolete in such a short period.
As for mankind giving them a reason to be, they would be doing all the toilet jobs mankind has, which in any sentient being would generate animosity and resentment. This in itself has led to uprisings all throughout history.

I'll leave this open for a few more replies before I change the topic.

If you watched I-robot you would know by obeying those laws they would eventually come to the conclusion that we are killing ourselves..... which we are. They would try to contain us and make us the slaves so as not to kill ouselves......

What if we had no moon.

Is the moon hit in the same blast that killed off the sun in your earlier post? Or is this another moon?
