Thread: Purpose of Evony?

    Default Purpose of Evony?

When I first joined evony during AP testing, when I didn't want to study so just pretended by playing Civony and following the little quest, I was floored. It was a pretty simple game, free, and it blew through my time pretty effectively. But now, the more I play, the more I realize that a lot of people on the site are beyond powerhungry-- they are words that would only be censored.

I understand attacking people, we've all done it, it's the purpose of the game. I get wars, I get the huge sweeps of attacks, I get wanting to steal cities, to aquire resources, to get medals... What I don't understand is continuously attacking an active members single city just for spite. I don't understand the logic and I'm stunned by people's incompetence when it comes to diplomacy.

So a single city keeps getting attacked. Loyalty sinks, public grievance climbs, population drops, riots occur, heros bail, etc. But the person doing the attacking is getting few resources, no medals, little prestige and honor...so what's the point? Why attack a city you can't take?

Is it to be irritating? Is it to make some sort of statement? Is it an attempt to get people to quit the game?

For people who do not buy the cents to get teleports and truce agreements, these hostile neighbors ruin the game and it's a shame. The purpose of the game is to advance your own rank, not to robotically attack cities with no resources, no loyalty and that cannot be taken.

Maybe I'm just ranting, but I think attacking someone just to be irritating or whatever the purpose is (as in, they aren't attacking for resources, prestige, honor, etc), is a form of harassment and I'm sick of seeing the chill people on the site quit because there are people who get powertrips out of this kind of play.

Griefers do this for the sheer joy of the pain they know they are causing you.

and its not a form of harrasment... its a PvP game, you need to expect to be attacked. The means to get away from him are offered to you in the game (for free i might add)

Teleport away, use a truce item, Join his alliance, or ally with his alliance.

all are options to stop getting attacked.

It's jus' like real life. You're get diplomats, you'll get the underdogs, you're get mighty hero's and you'll get dirty pieces of ****e that jus' want to hurt you.
    I like the realistic feel.

Like TriOrbit said, different things are fun for people; different things happen in this game in different situations. Evony was very well build as far as these city-builder games go. You can find yourself bein' the victim of a monstrous attack, the likes of which are seen only in movies and make an epic recovery, maybe one day get vengeance if the urge so takes you.
You might rise to the top w/ ease, much like other computer games...you might have all the struggles of real life....you might have other things or a mix; the whole RPG aspect of it is what gets people into it.

You also have the option of taking over a far away flat and building a city on it. Everybody starts with the beginners/lords package, which has enough medals in it to put you at knight rank and capable of owning two cities. If you have a low to mid level warehouse, you can store enough in it to build a city, and even if you don't, the person can't possibly keep attacks against you every minute of every hour 24/7, and it takes very little time to get whats necessary to take a low lv flat and build a city.

Point of clarification: while attacking people or playing aggressively is not a reflection of real life morality, griefing is. Most griefers are, in any game, real life

Well that's very heartening. It's nice to know people still have souls.

i think perhaps its time to "unplug" and take a break from gaming for you.

heh, comparing how people are in RL with how they act in a game really doesnt make much sense.

The most cruel, vicious, evil, Griefer that repeatedly attacks you 20 times a day; could very possibly also be the nicest person you would ever meet in the world.

    remember... its just a game.

And it's also very heartening that sarcasm is understood by so many people
