Thread: Prestige - Change or eliminate

Default Prestige - Change or eliminate

As most decent players have recognized by now, prestige does not equal power. Not in the least. This seems to be a problem to me, because its the primary component of your ranking. All of my comments are from experience on server 2, apologies if this is different elsewhere, but I doubt that it is.

On server 2, I have 8 cities, and am #1 in population on the server. I'm in the top 5 for honor. My total prestige is ~80k. There are people with one city who have more prestige than I. I don't have a problem with the fact that they have more at all, the problem is that 'prestige' doesn't reflect actual 'strength' at all. My army outnumbers these guys by 100 to 1. I make millions of gold more per day than they do. My research is 6-7 steps ahead of them in every category. And yet, they are ranked 'higher'.

Am I missing something here, or is prestige pretty much a useless stat that doesn't really indicate much, if anything at all?

The discrepency occurs because players build differently. Some take a nice, balanced approach, spreading out upgrades over all their buildings. That's fine for them. Myself, literally everything I have built or upgraded directly increases my ability to kill and burn things, or make me more money. That's it. No fancy upgraded marketplaces or high level workshops in each city to speed mechanics, just A) things to kill you with while B) I get richer.

Should I be penalized in the rankings for playing a leaner, meaner game? Seems counterintuitive. Will I experience a prestige 'boom' once all my barracks and cotts are done and I have nothing else to spend resources on so I start upgrading the useless buildings? Thoughts?

In the proposed upgrades they're making Honor much more prominent in Alliance ranking and such. I think most people by now realize that Honor is the more dangerous of the two stats.

prestige counts for how much u build and upgrade and wars and that basically its all ur actions during game play....perhaps ya prestiege ur prestiege is low becos u r leaving some other things out since u r more focused on war, since this is the case to build ya prestiege by wars u'll have to do lots of attacking....esp to NPCs. Yes, I had read this, and it's great...for alliance ranking. Individual ranking still seems like it will favor those who sagely invest in level 10 forges for every city and build every toilet bowl in their kingdom out of solid platinum rather than those who are able to generate gigantic pyramids of skulls taken from their foes to decorate their gates. I still cry foul.

But...I need my platinum toilet seat for my delicate tushy...

That being said, I'm not sure. I personally think Honor should definitely have much more prominence in both individual and alliance ranking because as you say, someone with a scale model Statue of Liberty out of body parts is probably more dangerous than someone with whimsical fairy fountains.

Well, you can already look at player rank by honor.

By changing alliances to rank based on honor as well, it will become the prominent stat. Not exactly sure what you're asking for, here, since non-prestige rankings already exist in the game through a simple drop-down box.

If alliances were ranked by honor, then alliances would emphasize it more, making it a more valuable stat.

I agree. There should be some equation to detemine ranking.
    Something like.. Prestige/2+(Honor*1.5)+(Population/5)+Net income+(Total resource production/1000).

Yea i dont think prestige should be want players are mainly ranked on. There should just be points which is a total of everything or soemthing similar.

I'm not really sure what I'm asking either, but maybe I can give you a few examples that illustrate the part that feels wrong to me.

If you listen to people recruiting for alliances, what do they usually set as a requirement? Prestige. On your breakdown panel in the upper right near your picture, where it shows your rank? What determines the number displayed there? Prestige. What does everything default to when you're looking at the statistics screen or at your alliance mates? Prestige.

The game has tricked a lot of people into thinking that stat means something, when it doesn't. You can take two players, of equal prestige, and compare them to one another using any (meaningful) standard of comparison you like. Now, I know I've mentioned I'm militaristic, but I know other standards matter too. Economy matters, # of cities matters, etc.

BUT, its very easy to find two players with equal prestige, compare them in one or all of these ways, and you will find that one of them STINKS and the other is VASTLY underrated.

That's what irks me. I'd prefer everyone was ranked by statistics that had actual value.

Statistics screen defaults to "Title" for me, and the alliance members page defaults to "Position" (as in, Officer, Presbyter, etc). It only defaults to prestige if I open those screens again after having changed the sorting to Prestige manually previously.

IE, log out, then back in, and check the screens again.

Dunno. I don't think it's really such a big deal. Prestige does gauge how much you've done in the game, not necessarily that you're a military powerhouse.

I can be just as famous for having my artistic statues and an impregnable fortress as I can for being a Mighty Conqueror.
