So I suppose if 2 horses carry the ballista to the battlefield then you have to have the support staff for them, and the men to reload the ballista. and trained personnel to aim it.

    5 people doesn't seem unreasonable
6 for a cataphract is quite ridiculous.

personally I do not see why the units have different upkeep of food/per population unit.
I believe infantry/archers should be 2 or 3 food per population unit and cavalry/catas and siege engines should be 5 food per population unit since they have horses to feed too
well whatever the case may be... i know the food cost to feed an army is extreamly large... too large... very unrealistic.

a single castle should be able to feed 100,000 troops without problems.

    agreed.

with a perfectly split resource allocation of 25% of each resource(that's 10 farms) you should be able to feed 100k troops without owning any field buffs from outside the city.
Just level 9 fields with level 10 tech. to feed

wellllllll i dont know about that one.

in Medival times, most of a Kings Lands where devoted to farming, and the producing of consumable goods (livestock, Barley and hops, ect ect)

but i think with half going to farming, (slightly more if not all lvl 10) you should be able to support 100,000 units (MIXED units) quite comfortably.... as many many kings of the past did this.

    fair enough

I was just going off what i thought the developers expected when they started the game. I figured they assumed an even mix in the start. Though they fast learned that stone is nigh worthless, I'm sure.

    Archers : target practice
Cavalry/Cataphracts: one for the soldier, the rest are to teach the horse to charge at humans
Transporters: four to carry the thing when it's the horses turn to take a break
    Ballistae/Battering Ram/Catapult: Well...what else but some seige-target practice, eh?
