Why build an inn? You can always purchase a hero in another town and ship it to this one.

You can farm heroes from valleys too. No need for inns?
you need stables -
you need the horseriding researchfor cavelry - and to acces the lvels from you 2nd,3rd.. villaeg you need stable and achademy level 5
Warehouses are quite pointless even in protecting resources. A better protection is to not have tons of unused resources, preferably spent on units which can protect your resources much better than a warehouse.
A stable is needed to build a relief station and you need one in each city that has any plan to transport or reinforce other cities (maybe not everyone). But once the relief station is built you can demo the stable and keep the benefit of the relief station. Currently the relief station level 2 does nothing more for a city, beyond that I haven't tested.
A stable is not needed to build mounted units. Its needed to research, but after that, like the forge etc its no longer needed.
Also a forge and workshop are needed for walls but can be demoed once those are completed to the level required.
While there are ways to get around needing an inn, I would build one in every city to start, being able to selectively choose from many, many heros per day will allow you to get some quality heros. Once all your feasting halls are full, you can think about getting rid of some.
Don't you need the forges to take advantage of the 'construction' research in each town? or is it simply good enough to have the academy of equal value?
its in the research that you need the stables
all i can tell is every single building is needed, with the exception of the warehouse, like most said troops can protect resources, and everything else is required to build up on many things. even if you can demo it later i suggest you don't destroy it.

For my second colony I built most of the buildings so that I could do research inboth colonies and wouldnt hit any stumbling blocks later in the course of building up buildings.
I didnt build an embassy because my main colony is the most important, and i can reinforce the second one with soldiers from the first if necessary, and I have 2 barracks in each colony to build back up soldiers fast.
Its not like a person could take my loyalty down to 0 fast.
I also didnt build a marketplace. It only takes 2-3 minutes to transport stuff from one colony to the other so not a big deal to move things to and from the marketplace in the first city.
I have everything else, and 2 barracks and 2 warehouses in each colony.
I built warehouses because you can never have enough soldiers to hold back every enemy out there. That is, theres always a person or group thats stronger and I will need reserve resources to build troops back up no matter how much they may pillage.
Basically, I like to be prepared for anything.
Its not like 2 more cottages will matter, this game is never ending that I know of, so while its good to get gold fast, 2 more cottages worth arent so big a deal compared to being prepared for anything.
so...
you need everything. lol
so why is the title what NOT to build? then say you need everything?
