i agree with Tom Clancy. being a gamer it's strange that i don't read sci-fi novels but i do like Tom Clancy, John Sandford, and Matt Reilly novels. my favortie Tom Clancy might be...*thinks* Teeth Of The Tiger.

Any book by Robert Jordan...I started reading the Wheel of Time series when I was a freshman in high school....The man wrote all his books until the day he died just like he said in the profile section of his books. One of the greatest fantasy authors of time in my opinion.

I've always greatly enjoyed Neal Stephenson's books. And his latest one, Anathem, is really great.

It starts off with an alternate world view where mathematicians and scientists live away from the rest of the world in convents, since the general populace are intimidated by them. From there, it just keep growing larger and larger. It also has some very interesting ideas on interplanetary travel.

Buffel, is it an Earth-based alternate-history type of novel? It sounds very good - thanks for the recommendation.

As for the fantasy - I still haven't broached that area of literature yet - I'm a bit worried I'll like it and buy even more books.

Such a broad question, with so many answers.

    Sci-Fi humor : Phule's Company
"Hard" Sci-Fi : The Man Who Sold the Moon by RAH
Outlandish Sci-Fi : The Practice Effect by D. Brin
Derivative Sci-Fi : The Rihansuu series by Diane Duane ( Star Trek )
Fatalistic Sci-Fi : Starwolves by Thorrarin Gunnarsun ( sp?)
Military Sci-Fi : ANything by Dale Brown with Brad Elliott or Patrick MacClannahan in it.
"Heavy" Sci- Fi : The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.
Satiric Sci-Fi : Mission Earth by L. Ron Hubbard ( nothing at all to do with Scientology!)

The list goes on and on....
This will be a running tab on server 27...

    Default Fiction/Fantasy Books?

Right, I'm looking for some good fantasy books, the type with wars, magic, dwarves, etc... not Sci-Fi with aliens or CIA or any of that rubbish.

Ive read LOTS of David Gemmell, David Eddings, David & Leigh Eddings.

Read Eragon series, Mr Monday (w/e) series, LotR series, The Hobbit, the whole of the "Belgariad", the individuals about Belgerath and Polgara, the "Troy" books, all of Thomas Covanent...
There was one series set in a place called "Landover".. think the first book was called "Kingdom For Sale!", I've read all them.. the list goes on and it's too long for me to type.

I need some, I get really bored sometimes stuck indoors when its raining or I just can't get to sleep. I don't care about the cost tbh, I make enough so that a few books wont bother me.
