They actually had to tone down Superman's powers so that the writers of his show could think of situations where he might actually be challenged.
Gandalf would soo kick superman's butt

Yes, but I am not talking of Gandalf the grey, who was killed after he killed his enemy. I am speaking of Gandalf the WHITE, who owned an army of orcs and helped own another army of orcs. And became one of the most powerful beings in Middle Earth.
I have heard flaming shots are fun. Anyone want to try?
Gandalf the white really never did anything himself besides destroying Saurman's staff. He brought the Riders of Rohan to Helm's Deep which won the battle but other than have his staff glow really bright and fight alongside everyone else he didn't do anything special. Same thing with the Battle of Gondor. He just fought alongside everyone else, then abandoned the battle to go save Faramir. And on the way to do that he got owned by the Witch King and was only spared because the army of Rohan showed up and that gave the Witch King something more important to worry about. Gandalf the White's strength was in finding the right people to be at the right place at the right time and then hope that they'd come through for him and change the situation to his advantage.
Superman can't be killed. He's all powerful and he has eye lasers. He'd slaughter Gandalf. I wish it wasn't so because I hate Superman and like Gandalf but I just can't see Gandalf winning.
Edit: Wow, I must really be bored if I'm putting that much thought into this....

At Cyhort-In the battle of Gondor, he scared away several Nazgul and helped reinforcements get into the castle. He also lead every soldier in Minas Tirith after Denethor totally screwed up and went wacko. Without him, the entire free peoples of middle earth would have been wiped out.
At Storm-...

I'll give you the Nazgul. But he didn't really lead the soldiers of Minas Tirith to victory. He kept them from running when Denethor went insane but he quickly abandoned the fighting to go save Faramir. Plus the only reason the Gondorians didn't lose that battle was because Rohan kept the orc army occupied until Aragorn could show up with his army of ghosts.
Now that would be a poll question, Superman vs Aragorn's Ghost Army.
Joe: I meant killed as in killed for good. And really I doubt that Gandalf could recreate the circumstances that lead to Superman's "death".
