Cyhort- In the book, the army wasn't that of ghosts. And in the battle of Minas Tirith, it took a long time for the Rohirrim to arrive. The Gondorians were kept alive soley because they trusted Gandalf and knew that if they lost, their families would die. And Gandalf didn't think anyone would survive if the Gondorians didn't have a leader they knew. Thus, he had to save Faramir. And plus, Gandalf never died. He was killed, but according to your description of Superman's death, Gandalf never died either. He was resurrected. And not just by a lowly Valar (not very lowly...) but by Eru himself. Eru would not have let Gandalf stay dead. Not unless he was killed and utterly destroyed in a fight. Not unless Gandalf could do no more good against evil.

Gandalf pwns. Look at the facts, please:

1) Wardrobe: Flowing robes and magical staff vs. Tights and undies and a shirt that got shrunk in the wash.

2) Wisdom: Sees the future, sees things happening elsewhere, knows how to save all of Middle Earth vs. Can't figure out that a guy with heat/laser vision probably shouldn't be living in an ice-cave, thinks that glasses will completely obscure who he is, and falls for a smart-mouthed reporter who isn't very smart now is she?

3) Greatest foes defeated: Dragons, orcs, evil wizards, all the collected powers of darkness vs. a bald guy and a glowing rock.
