Thread: This is what evony about

    Exclamation

I have been playing since May and have never spent any sort of real money on this game.

I now have 7 cities, and am nearly done with all research, and almost all the quests.

I have been stomped on a bit by other players, but I recovered.

I do wonder about those players who started about the same time I did, and seem to have all level 10 cities, but I take it in stride.

I have no comment whatsoever on the pricing, because I do not pay, and all those mails on specials are ignored. I've never even considered it.

I just want to point out that I play without EVER paying ANYTHING, and I still have fun.

truth is, all those mails on specials... and specials alone (no news of updates etc. in them) is very annoying. Evony should think of how that makes them look only talking to us about about special deals if you buy coins, and not bothering to talk to us about other things.

Well, I'm tired of these forums. Very little humor in them anymore. Adios all.

A lot of good points being made in this thread.

Then Evony -definitely- wouldn't be "free forever".
Yeah I could see that happening. I wonder though if it might be viable to balance a drop in prices for cents (or a drop in cents for items) with an increase in the number and variety of items gained through winning battles? This would encourage more combat as well, and that could be a good thing given how biased toward defense combat has become...Of course, there there would be players who buy the items and attack like mad as well ending up with tons of items. Hmmm...That situation could possibly be balanced by increasing the chance of finding an item only when attacking targets of equal or larger size. It could also be managed by limiting the quality of plundered items; for example one might have a fair chance of getting a plowshares or holy water from an attack, but an extremely slim chance of getting something like a master guideline or adv. teleporter. And of course there's always the shady programming option, simply scripting in that players who've spent money have less chance of finding items from attacks, but I suspect that this would cause a fair bit of backlash in the forums.

Yeah, this is still an something of an issue thanks to certain autobuy features (try to use an item you dont have and the game buys it for you) regarding things like speakers. I think at this point most of them have been fixed though, the war ensign check box for one.

Annoying? Downright infuriating and just about inexcuseable. Also one of, if not the main reason I don't spend money on Evony at this point. No way am I going to drop $30 to help build my army when there's a fair chance that a silent nerf patch or battle mechanics tweak is going to take it away. Minimum 3 days notice would be good, a weeks notice would be better.

Anyway, i've only ever spent $5 on the evony mini-rewards and that was really just for the fun of spinning the WoF a bunch of times. 3 months of playing and the only item i've ever felt the lack of was an Adv. teleporter and even then i've managed fine without it. So is it possible to play without paying? In most cases I think so. But I also think that allowing greater access to items in the right way could make the game more interesting as a whole, and maybe even make Evony more profitable.
    Just my $0.02.

The ones that crack me up are the ones that buy coins then claim they would never buy coins but then they teleport 15 times in one month....When confronted...Oh I was lucky I won coins or won that with a wheel spin.

Or the guy that is building Ballistas on the first day of the server.

Hah I never buy coins...I got lucky and won 1000 coins yet I never saw his name in lights and I was there since the server started.

I do not care if people buy coins at all. Evony needs to pay the bills. But when the prevailing attitude is coins are bad so Im not going to admit I buy coins then something is fundamentally wrong with the game.
