What do you want them too?
If they install a 'vacation' feature, it'll get abused. It's a real time game.

In the main vacation mode thread, I believe players have made several reasonable and workable suggestions. For example, it could be for a minimum of 7 days, so someone might not want to just go into vacation mode just so they can avoid one attack -- not unless they didn't want to play for a week. You couldn't set vacation mode while you are under attack. And after the vacation mode is over, you can't attack for (say) 12-24 hours.

It is a real time game, but with emphasis on "game" and if people don't find it enjoyable they can leave. It's not enjoyable to come back from a vacation and find you're down to one city with loyalty near zero, and it's not enjoyable to think that the only way you can succeed in the game is to be on 365 days a year and never allow "real life" to take over for a while.
Thanks, Amulet, for another 20,000 stone. Again.

    I do fine.
I can be away for a few days and it's all good, it's called trusting somebody to look after your account.
