Problem is that the game never had a system to keep it balanced. That has been further compounded by the fact that the game provides no incentive or challenge to advance. This notion that the game is unbalanced toward the aggressive player is more a matter of perspective. If you're talking in terms of equally matched players then the defender has the advantage. But to look at noob farming as an example, then the attacker has the advantage.
If this Age 2 thing ever does go ahead (personally, I'm torn between thinking that it's just another Evony promise to keep us hanging in there, or a way of getting around admitting to us that Age 1 was another beta test), then hopefully there will be some kind of focus to actually make it worthwhile taking on your evenly matched neighbour.
As for the battle reports, lets test it to see if it's exploit proof. If you have a 'friend' who's happy to let you wreck his defences, scout him, then get him to move his troops into a valley while you attack. Check battle report. Post results...
