Thread: Poor Evony database security, my friends account got hacked.

  1. #1

Default Poor Evony database security, my friends account got hacked.

Last night the host of my alliance had his account hacked.

He runs a web-hosting service, changes his passwords weekly, and is no slouch when it comes to security.

He got it back just in time, but not before the hacker dismissed all of his good heros, and booted the two vice-hosts.

Everyone out there should change your password often. Evony is probably more vulnerable to this than they would officially admit to.

Given how poorly the game is programmed and the poorly-considered game change rollouts like the 10% attack rule, does anyone here think that the security on the password database is any better?

This whole episode left me shaking my head, yet again.

sound's like your host possibly compromised his own security by sharing his p/w, more than likely to have others keep tabs on it while he was gone. sounds like a breach in the terms of service?

also, comments like "poorly programmed" are unconstructive and unbased, and a very "half-empty-cup" point of view! if you are so informed/educated on proper coding and programming, maybe you should offer your help to fix some of evony's persistent problems!!

curious, when exactly did this occur the other day?

Well, I'm tired of these forums. Very little humor in them anymore. Adios all.

Why someone would hack into Evony in order to hack into an account is beyond me. If this was a breach on Evony's part and not your Host's the hacker must really have hated him (I guess that holds either way).

My friend does not share his password. Ever.

As for programming... I don't have to be a master chef to know when someone has ****ed in my soup.

I am an accountant, not a programmer. It is not my job to fix evony's problem. At the base of it I am, or was, a paying customer.

I dont believe anyone got "hacked" It`s almost always one of 2 things:

    1) the person was sloppy with the security of their password and either gave it to someone or made it easy for someone to guess it.
    2) The person did something stupid on their account and later regretted it so then they claim they didnt do it, someone hacked their account and kicked people.

If someone went through the trouble of "hacking" an account they could have and would have done alot more damage than to just kick 2 people from the alliance and then give the account back.

I have been hearing about stuff like this a lot recently. I never change my password and have had no issues, also there are quite a few...should i say a lot of people who hate me in this game and still I have not had this happen. So I would obviously lean towards something other than these accounts have been "hacked". Personally I never give out my password to anyone online, those that do that well they deserve whatever happens to their account, paying customer or not.

Also when people say they haven't given their account info out after something like this happens I typically think of two things, either they are using a public computer that allows cookies and they saved their info, or they gave their information to an alliance mate who did not like them and got burned for it.

If i get hacked after posting this then I guess everyone who said their account was hacked might not have been telling a lie
