Thread: multi accounting punished or not?

How would they enforce this rule for one??? I mean me and my wife both play on the same connection.. We both are in the same alliance we both have placed our cities within a few miles of each other and surrounded our selves with npc's so what would they do? if they went by the IP address it would show two accounts that interact with eachother? is this Multi'ing? I think the Evony team understand this and realizes that there is not a way to properly deal with Multi accounting members and the members who have more than one person running two different accounts from the same ip address. I understand that allows people to dupe the system but what are they to do pi** off legit people over a few complaints about something that is not hurting anyone?

Considering the rules regarding same IP connections are clear on restrictions and not preventing you from doing it legally, and people that abuse it to the full extent get all the free cash shop stuff they want and could stomp most 100 person alliances by themselves if they were smart, yes, they should.

That isn't actually true especially when the accounts are reported with evidence supporting the accusation of a single person running multiple accounts on a single server. The IP address and activity logs are just the nail in the coffin. The chance that someone would report you or your wife for multi'ing is unlikely, ergo they won't investigate meaning you won't be banned.

Something you really should know: companies that run MMOs don't tend to worry about banning the wrong person as long as they get those who are breaking the rules as well. The player who is banned, but was playing legitimately has to then appeal the banning which could take a while, and might not be unbanned.

    Simple answer?

Because there is no simple answer.

While you may consider the matter to be clear, or that it should be easy to clarify a rule that they wrote (since they 'should' understand what they want/need/expect) ... the reality may not be so simple. Most likely, there are members in the Evony leadership who have the same differences in opinion that have been raised here.

The only thing worse than for them to opt NOT to answer here, would be for them to simply adopt a solution tht they themselves have not finalized all the issues on beteen themselves.

Their existing rules on it are clear and have been from the start. Dawnseeker posted recently to reiterate that multi-accounting was indeed still illegal. Though I do not believe and I doubt most of the players believe that anyone and everyone connected from the same IP should be banned without any other reason or investigation into the matter, I would imagine that all those such as yourself that have multiple people connecting from the same network would just as much like to hear their position on this as people in my situationwant to hear what is to be done about blatant abuse of it.

Yes, I would like to hear some sort of clarification, but as I said... I doubt we will.

It is really in the best interest of Evony NOT to respond. As long as they leave the status quo, they retain the internal option to make judgement calls on individual cases on an individual bases. The more 'details' they give, the more they actually limit their own options in dealing with this matter. If the provide a list of specific regulation on the matter, they open themselves to dealing with a multitude of assumptions from the playerbase and... of course... those who will seek to slip through the cracks.

Keep in mind, they can ignore something when it benefits them. Once thet respond, they are obligated to that response.

I anticipate they will not respond unless they feel they can add something noteworthy that will not limit their options.... and they will continue banning (or not) based on their own internal formula.

We all know multi accounts suck and they can block/ban IP addresses as to the husband wife team - isnt that a little unfair if you decide to attack someone when you are in the same room and have an unfair advantage over everyone - even alliances? Sorry but one of you can go to the library and get free internet. We all know evony states they are a small business and who knows how much influence comes from the chinese ownership or investment. If they are a small business problems like this not getting fixed right away are sure signs of it. I see about five different staff members that have ever posted on these boards from evony and only three with any frequency. I think you are dealing with a small firm trying to catch up after the huge influx of new players they just had - which now on my server 51 i would say 95% are gone. I think this issue is down the list aways for them but you watch with these drop rates and servers combining you will see them start to listen once they get caught up on their sleep. Just keep the heat up and tell all other players to start posting mulitple account threads. Something I would like to bring up too (i cant post on here yet or havent spent the time to figure it out) is extending beginner protection. It would be very easy to average the amount of prestige of players on a server and increase the days in beginner protection based on those numbers - average 100k give the player 2 weeks. I am an accomplished gamer and i had to spend alot of time tht first week and still got knocked around my first two days. I think that would be a great fix vs trying to stop players from getting stronger. Plus it gives evony more time to get money from them for coins before they realize how bad they can get it when protection drops.
