Default First impressions: Chronicles of the new guy

First off, no, this isn't a critique. It's more like me writing down what I have done so far, providing room for discussion, so I (and others) can learn what is more efficient. and try to develope a pro attitude towards the game.

    About me:
I'm a 39 year old male. I have played online game from the very beginning. I started with Ultima Online worked my way through many MMO's and am currently playing Sword of the New World. I, like many others, ave seen the online adverts for this game on many sites...and am still looking for the hawt blonde with the huge nugs...that got me here...only to find it's an age of empires/civilization type game! Oh well, nevermind, I like those kinds of games.

    On with my chronicles:
    Lord Name: Barstool
    Town Name: Barstoolville

    Day 1:
Stare at the screen in total confusion and ignorance. Begin reading everything while I notice most numbers are going up...a couple down. Decide to do the usual, and Global chatted that Ima noob help me out. To which I was bombarded with emails from a very helpful Lodge to get me started.

    Following quests:
Built 9 cottages- upgraded 6 to level 3
Build 1 Warehouse - upgrade it to level 3
    running out of lumber
Lodge advises to ignor emost things starting out. Build saw mills and upgrade them asquickly as I can. Then get an academy going.
Build 2 farms - upgade to level 3
    build 1 quary
    build 1 ironmine
    Build a market
sell loads of iron and stone for gold, buy more lumber and food
    build 2 more farms
    build 3 more quarry
    build 3 more ironmines
    Build an inn
    build an academy
    build a feasting hall
recruit a hero and appoint as mayor
Build a raly spot upgraded to lvl 2
    build a barracks - upgraded to 2
Trade loads more stuff for gold, lumber and iron now
    Upgrade town hall
Curiosity killed me, build a watch tower
    Build an embassy
    Build a forge
    Build a workshop
    Build a stable

Ok, yeah this can go on for a while...so I'll spare you the end results. I am now about 14 hours into the game and this is what i have:
    Cottages - 9 (7 level 3, 2 level 4)
    Warehouse - (lvl 3)
    Town Hall (lvl 3)
    Marketplace - 1 (lvl 2)
    Embassy - 1 (lvl 1)
    Rally Spot - 1 (lvl 2)
    Barracks 1 (lvl 2)
    Stable - 1 (lvl 1)
    Watch Tower - 1 (lvl 1)
    Feasting Hall - 1 (lvl 3)
    Academy - 1 (lvl 3)
    Inn - 1 (lvl 2)
    Forge - 1 (lvl 2)
    Workshop - 1 (lvl 2)
    Sawmills - 4 (lvls 3, 4, 5 and 6)
    Ironmines - 4 (3X lvl 1, 1X lvl 3)
    Quarry - 4 (2X lvl 1, 1x lvl 2, 1X lvl 3)
    Farms - 4 (2X lvl 1, 1X lvl 3, 1X lvl 5)
    Workers - 10
    Warrior - 10
    Scout - 10
    Pikemen - 10

OK, time for the lesson learned.
I need to focus on individual prodctions and develiope them
Spreading out so much is costing me both time and amount produced. I think maybe 2 farms at lvl 6 would be better than wasting the wood on 4 and keeping 2 at a low level.
I have 7 days of beginner truce: Military developement is not a priority at this point and I should stop for now.
I think Lumber is the single most important product to exploit and most energy should be focussed here.

rather than start again, I'll ride out to the ends of my first 24 hours and see if I can't get a better focussed direction going.

    Advice and input is welcome;

    Joe

If I was a new player I would get in a good alliance only build one quarry and get stone from others. In my finished cities I only have one quarry and that's in case I upgrade walls or something. Many I know don't have any quarrys. They buy stone from the market.

    I'm slowly learning that.

I am now in an alliance and am getting some really good input.

It's too late to undo what i have already done, so, I'll just have to let it ride and see what i can do.
