    Text Evony: A player's review

**To all Moderaters, Representive and Evony Fiends**
This thread is to provoke thought & constructed critrism from all players. Please refrain from deleting such a great thing!

Okay before I start this fire Starter of a thread. I want to get across clearly I have thoroughly enjoyed my time playing Evony (6 months now). For all its lag time, in game faults and depressing attempts at selling game coins to players it has been incredibly enjoyable to play. A game where many friends can be made, even though many miles away, where lands can be conquered and where blood can be shed.

Being quite ignorant as a 16 year old teenager should be. I never really explore or thrive for learning. Really anything that is outside my comfort zone or that strays too far away from the local Xbox or going out with the lads. However, Evony has given me fresh and exciting interest into International business and the ever expanding interent. Nowadays, Simply searching anything you desire on the web will give you a definative result. Simply searching anything on the web in regarding to Evony and you'll find it will give you a mixed, and you'll also find some very entertaining results. However we will get to that later.

The focus of this post that people must remember is that all information is from outside opinion. From a collective group of sources and people, ranging from Encyclopedias, gaming analyst experts, and then finally to the average Joe Soap the plumber man. Now I know most of these F......s can be sometimes biased to stick with there own gaming companies. There is also an element of the envious & begrudging gamer type and various Game Makers at the remarkable growth of Evony in such a short space of time through User Trends and outstanding input cash flow from these customers into Evony which is clearly showed below in comparison with compitition.

I want to make it clear that I will not post any outside links to sites where most of the information below was gotten from as I know Evony are very touchy feely on the subject.

We'll get right to it and start with the outside opinion. All criticism and praise. We'll start with Wikepedia, a well known, trusted Encyclopedia. Users add this to these articles and no, sole author is responsible any one article.

There opening introductory lines begin with:

'Evony (formerly known as Civony) is a browser-based multiplayer online game, with substantial similarities to Civilization. The game itself received mixed critical reviews, and its 2009 online ad campaign drew strong criticism'

It then proceeds to give a brief analysis of the gameplay but then really focus's on the critrism aspect of the game from several other compititive online sites.

    Advertising campaign:

'Evony's 2009 online advertising campaign was criticised for featuring what The Guardian called "a string of increasingly racy images."[4][5] The images depicted females who, as the ad campaign continued, grew further and further unclothed, until the ad was simply a pair of breasts.[5] A running slogan for the campaign was "Save the queen!", although within the game, there is no queen to save.[5]
Evony was also accused of using spam promotion.'

Now I know many users have resented Evony's use of Illicit images through there great advertising campaign. Not a page on the internet was free from the great military like assault. Great Military commanders like Napoleon Bonaparte would have been put to shame. One of Evony's finest pieces is below:

Now isn't acceptable for a business to use any medium they deem fit, to reach out to there customers?(Target Audience Very broad 15-35) Anglo Irish Car insurance company, one of many, makes a a great job of sucking old age pensioners into there ring of insurence brackets through very degrading like Television advertisements. Making sure not a penny will be left in one hand knitted pocket! In Evony's case. Cleavage, skin showing young things staring blatantly up at of the page at an innocent Face Book Traveller or adventurous Travian Roamers will certainly attract attention. Lets face it. Without such a daring, I personnaly think Evony would never had made it as a hit.

    Tom Ryan from forum Gawker:

'If you believe technology is rapidly turning us all into hedonistic degenerates, these advertisements for an online video game give you a perfect case study. The game, Evony, is about empire-building strategy. The ads, increasingly, are about boobage.

Web entrepreneur Jeff Atwood, who first highlighted the ads, writes that they "take advertising on the internet to the absolute rock bottom," and toward the moronic, hypersexualized future foretold in Mike Judge's movie Idiocracy.

Yes, sure, inevitable cultural and intellectual decline of America, whatever. Vulgarians that we are, we're far more burned up by the game's false advertising: After all that flesh, there's not actually a "queen" to "save" in the game! The boobage was strictly for "marketing purposes," according to Evony. Now that's something you can (probably!) sue over.'

As you can see some criticism claim these ads are signals of 'societies declining morales'. However it must be remembered that Evony, as a developing and very recent business. Must attract its customers through any legal means or medium to stay afloat.

Interesting thread, but did you have to post it in every server forum?

Overall, all the duplicates he made need to be deleted, yet perhaps if they could leave this one to see how it plays out.

shogun, don't spam like that. I don't care what the reason.

Well, I'm tired of these forums. Very little humor in them anymore. Adios all.

I was actually wanting a nice long mature responce to this. I have read several reviews after joining up of very critical and unflatering nature of Evony and it connecting partnerships.

But yet again as quick as anything a insto lam slam lock down man.

Go figure. Istead of responding like a real Corperation. You get nothing in responce.

    Thumbs down

Although it is true that "sex sells" the big drawback to using those kinds of ads to lure people to join evony is that those type of racey ads tend to attract the dregs of the internet.
The problem with having these dregs of assorted perverts, pedophiles and other freaks on a game site like this, is that many kids under the age of 18 play this game and are therefore forced into association with these degenerates and are exposed to their vile behavior and actions.
There is currently a growing problem on evony of inappropriate game names and alliance names. This is proof that these type of people are indeed on this site in large numbers.
Many of these inappropriate game names and alliance names are so vulgar that they can not even be displayed in these forums due to the forum filters.
These type of people also tend to have very low morals and do not abide by the game rules. They almost always look for and find ways to glitch/hack in order to exploit the game mechanics and disregard the rules and TOS,thereby destroying the game experience for everyone.
Fisherman use different kinds of bait depending on what type of fish they are trying to catch.Evony has chosen to use soft core **** as bait to catch customers,so it doesnt take rocket science to predict what type of customers they are going to catch.

Honestly? Were you not here before the ads? There were hundreds of racy, racists, vulgar and innapropriate alliance and player names. WAY before the ads started. They would create offensive alliances and spam war. Did the ads perhaps increase this type of profile? Maybe, but there are no numbers to support this. Did the ads also attract fine outstanding citizens of the world like yourself? Well you are here, so it must have.

Does Victorias Secret attract every pervert off the street, to have them roaming around in the store? No. Does Abercrombie and Fitch, with their very racy ads, which sells mostly to teens, get degenerates buying their clothes because their cataloques had some nudity in them? No.

Lets refer to Japans culture, where they are less sexually repressed and view some of their ads. Very racy, very sexual and sometimes near soft core. Does that make every japanese, or every person buying from those advertisers perverts? No.

I agree, it probably did attractive a few more less then outstanding people to the site than if they wouldn't have advertised that. But did it completely destroy the morality of the games social interaction? I don't think so.

Lastly, lets think about what the number one thing the internet is used for: Adult material. That is fact. So there are already millions of "degenerates" on the internet everyday. But I argue; Just because you view adult material, I person do not believe you are a degenerate or any less moral. Of course my more religious counterparts in the humanity pool might disagree, this is my opinion. So because some people start playing because they saw some boobs, I don't see as a huge issue.

I see, so in spite of the fact that they already had an ongoing problem with inappropriate IGN and alliance names, which still hasnt been curtailed, evony decided to intentionally start an ad campaign using soft core p.orn. Thats interesting.
If this was adult only game it wouldnt matter, but evony does advertise and cater to children too,and as such they have a responsibility to protect the safety and welfare of their underage customers.
