your 'main' account is one which u play 90% of the time.
your 2nd/3rd/.... account will simply be resource farm, you simply transport the resource away everyday. or a knight with only 1 city so you can barb your enemy's city.
yes it takes (minimal) effort to run more than 1 account. but some benefits are just too great -mainly capturing of city.
(it doesnt take much time to make an account with 1000warrior so you can capture city).

    1) Dev bans accounts with shared ip- you would exclude all those that played from public computers (work, uni etc, serious loss of income for evony), and you would breed a new type of multi-accounts from people who uses 3rd party proxies or can reroute connection through multiple in-house ip (i.e. if u are a network admin playing at work). anyway, the incentive to enforce this rule and chance of sucess is small from dev point of view.
This assumes that everyone playing from work or an internet cafe is also playing on the same server and in the same alliance. The chances of this occurring by random are astronomically small, and if it's not random them the people, once again, should have read the rules.

    2) Dev say its ok to do multi-accounts- that would make player feel obilge to create more accounts, only to abandon them later, creating a vast number of dead cities across the map. surely thats not right?

I think leaving it grey is the best option. unless they can enforce it fairly without discrimination.
Why would it make the player feel abliged to create more accounts? Some might be abandoned, no reason to create new ones unless they are already continuing to abuse them for the starter packages. Unfortunately it is not grey now, now it is everyone can exploit to their heart's content and nothing will happen to them. That's not an atmosphere in which a game can thrive for long.

anyway, look at it this way. Looking after 10 cities and keeping a massive army feed is already a full time effort. Whoever have full-strength mutli-accounts must have really suffered in real life. gaining an upperhand on a primitive game like evony is of little consolation.
Playing like a normal person, this is true, farming out NPCs two or three times a day, keeping construction and barracks in full production, transporting or trading your main production resource and buying new ones, takes a significant amount of effort for 8-10 cities. However, most of the multi-account abusers I've seen do not do it this way. They just have massive clusters of cities with semi equal lumber/iron production. There are few npcs. Individually the cities do not produce armies as fast as a regular player's, but they also take much less maintenance time. The person only has to set the barracks construction and not worry about NPCs or trading. Also, the internet is ground zero for derranged griefers with a lot of time to burn.

    Folks,

I play another game called oGame and they have a multi-account ban also - strictly enforced and it has results....

lifetime ban for first offense... have watched it happen many times over the 2 years i have played the game... there is a way to stop it - just enforce it and people with stop doing it...

As for multiple account (ie the family/ work senario) on the same IP, the developers can track the interactions of accounts... if there is advantage gained then BAM - banned for life (all the accounts that are tagged for multi-accounting).... have the player, if they still want to play the legal way, start over with a new account....

This game is getting destroyed by the multi-accounting aspect of it (see points brought up in posts before this)...

CRACK DOWN ON THE CHEATERS!!! Evony needs to do something quick or u will have the same hand-full of players on each server who perfect the multi-accounting and Evony will get a bad name...

Don't get me started on the offensive names that seem to spam on all servers... Free Speech is Free Speech but there are responsibilities and limits to free speech (ie yelling "fire" in a crowded room)...

    LOL
Evony already has a "bad name".
The unrestrcited PvP make it like trying to win a drinking contest with an alcaholic. With or without a multiboox rule.
