Too many kids I have talked to like this have parents that are basically non-existent. The parents really want nothing to do with the kids unless they can take credit for something good the kid does.
So, no matter how responsibly you may behave, they have shoved their kids at the world to be the worlds responsibility. You as a parent have your own children to worry about, you cannot feel responsible for every child that gets on the internet and possibly ends up in a chat with adults joking around about sensitive subjects. Besides, as someone pointed out, there is no one saying "I'm 7yrs old, please don't talk like that". I have come to recognize who is male, who is female, who is a kid, a teen and an adult in games or forums. Not everyone can and we shouldn't have to try to. I enjoy treating everyone as an equal and being able to shoot the bull with people in games without worrying about content of the discussion and the age of others involved.
