Okay so I made a thread depicting the sadness of playing an online game so long. It turned into talking about games and so it got moved. So I will attempt this again!
Ever play any online games (MMOs, browser games including Evony) where players just took it to a whole outrageous level of seriousness? I'm not talking about someone sending you a mail threatening to kill you and blow up your family cause you took their town in Evony. I'm talking take it up like 10 notches past that.
Here's mine:
In many MMOs there is raiding. It's basically going through a dungeon and devoting around 3+ hours as a group to clear through the objectives, monsters, bosses, etc. for uber rewards.
Scenario:
I talked to a guy I've been running with for a while in an online game and he said they did a dungeon in one night, 4 hours to reach the final boss. He said that they took no breaks. When he said he to go to the bathroom they screamed at him. He couldn't even pee without them nerd raging on him.
Here's another:
The Pandemonium Warden, was a newly added Final Fantasy XI boss that guild Beyond the Limitation plugged away at for 18 hours before finally gave up the fight. They estimate that with 5 or 6 more hours of work they could have finished the job.
"People were passing out and getting physically ill," guild leaders said. "We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how video games ruin people's lives."
