What is the deal with Rank. What benefit is it to increase your rank from major to colonel?

Advancing your rank (i.e. Civilian, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, General) will allow you to obtain higher titles (i.e. Civilian, Knight, Baronet, Baron, Viscount, Earl, Marquis, Duke, Furstin, Prinzessin) which will allow you to build and/or conquer more cities. After each promotion in title, you can build another city, all the way up to a total of ten cities. Hope this helps!

Thank you finally some one can answer my question. And yes it does seem redundant. I am currently a major and have enough for a Colonel but I am holding out to get a few more rose medals so that I can be a baron and get a third city. Thanks!!

There was, at one time, a theory about rank wherein a player's armies were affected by their lord's rank. This is to say, the higher the rank, the better armies would fight.

I fear to post anything.. anymore.
Is this what these forums have become?
