Spending as much time outside of the alliance as possible keeps you off the radar.
Using the advantages of an alliance to transport(which should be allowed between ANY player imo)/reinforce are nessarry in Evony. However, for the guerrilla warrior, alliance ties can also be dangerous. Being in an alliance highlights your flag (Red, Green, or Blue) on the map making your cities much more visable to other players. Also, most alliances have spies/alliance multis/etc allowing the potential for large scale intelligence gathering against your armies/cities. Plus, most clans are constantly waring, which can often times bring unnessisary trouble to your front door.
The guerrilla warrior is a scavenger thru need, and the war reports section is like a shopping list of free goods. Many times clanmates destroy a towns troops/fortifications, but dont go back for the resources. Check out and record intel from the reports so you have it ready at any time. Once you have your targets selected/intel gathered, put in word with the host of your alliance to save your spot and QUIT the alliance, do not get booted. Using the process of quitting the alliance a few times per week will keep your prestige low, which is also a valueable trait that any prayer trying to decieve or blend into the background should attain. Now that you are outside of your alliance you flag will appear grey to all players. If I'm attacking a player relitivly far away, I can pop up a lil raid town ( always build on lvl10 flat or highest possible) a few miles away, and with my low pres, small TH, and grey flag, and a lil luck I sometimes go ahead completely unnoticed. If not large players tend to send large waves at small TH/low pres players (remember to keep upgrading your walls with low TH) with out scouting much. Control the gates to kill off these forces when you can, (remember to use layering/build battle ranging fortification even if only a few). When being attacked this is a good time to rejoin alliance and garrison surprise reinforcements. If no forces are available, barbing the town to lvl 10 NPC can often do some damage to your enemy.
Anyways those are a few tips I've learned. Some may not work for everyone.
Everyone keep adding tips I have some more also.
Some players use these tactics not for fun, but because they have lost all there cities/troops etc., and are having a hard time rebuilding conventionaly.
However, some players do enjoy the challenge this gameplay style presents. And, thier are also some players who just like screwing with the larger, more conventional player/alliance.
Ranking markers like prestige and honor can be blown out of proprotion easliy, and don't give a clear indication to the players strength. I play Evony to have fun/be entertained, so I consider every fun day a win, when I stop winning I'll quit! ; )
