What happens if you attack a valley or flat with (for instance) 250 archer and 250 pike. What attack gives you more losses?

If you attack with 250 archers, win the battle, lose 10%, but if you do the same with 250 pike, win the battle, but lose 50%, isn't the gain in the long run for archer obvious?
