Thread: Why does Evony Forums Keep closing Threads?

I'm seeing a crazy trend here. I'm not going there.

This thread was about threads being closed and, indirectly, about moderation.

Retail management is vastly different from running an online game. Except for maybe certain types of stores or in very small towns, most retail stores do not have a community of customers, nor would they have any means or reason to communicate most of their internal changes to customers, beyond posting things like store hours, location changes, possible product issues and whatnot on their walls and website. There is no comparison between that and an MMOG that has a specific player base, sure people leave and new people join, but there is a much more significant relationship between an MMO company and its playerbase, than there there is between a retail outlet and its customers.

I still maintain that without knowing what and why things are changed that it is impossible to give effective feedback that will be of much help.

It works on the same level, as they are both businesses and both have customers to please.

Sekai, there is no difference. You still have customers and a customer base. It is the customers that drive what direction a business evolves.

I will give you a prime example: Star Wars Galaxies. When sony took it over, they kept making changes that made everyone extremely upset. They turned what was a great game into a console game that you pay monthly to play. 1.5 million customers left and went to WoW(I was one of them). Since then SWG has brought back some of the things that they used to have.

It is the customers that take a "customer" based business into the directions it goes. Right now, you have several million registered users for Evony. Right now the most people that voice their opinion of change do it in the form of hostile and threatening posts. If all those people who want their voice heard would like the game to take a specific direction, then they need to offer up suggestions, constructive criticism and positive input to get feedback and change in return.

Abracax, this is a left field question, have you seen the moderator control panel and stuff from FoxyBunny's account? I don't mean to pry but, cince you are all close, it makes sense if you would be a little bit biased after seeing all that your wife has to deal with when she logs in.

You all are bent on sticking to the negative and complaining instead of working towards the change you would like to see. So no matter what examples I use, no matter what sense I make, you will refuse and refute it.

You want to see change, work for it. We are the customers we drive what direction they take. Hostile and threatening posts do nothing for anyone. Constructive criticism, trying to work with the company by explaining your position in a positive way and getting more people to do the same, will bring about the changes you want.

No, what she does has to do with Evony and has nothing to do with me. Although she complains to me about how many messages she has in her inbox and she yells at me when I argue with someone making a thread devolve. She has even had another mod infract me so that it is kept fare and balanced.

What I am interested in knowing is if you find yourself artificially biased sometimes.

All businesses have a customer base, that doesn't make them all identical in dynamics. Either way, the fact that the majority of people voicing their opinions do so in a hostile manner, and are usually not shot down by the rest of the community, in and of itself is representative of the fact that the customer base is unhappy. I do not blame mods or reps for shutting down individual threads that are presented this way, though, nor am I disagreeing with you that it is not productive when people do that, but there is also a lot of constructive criticism, ideas, suggestions, etc., that has been removed, and the state of the game now is not a byproduct of the fact that the forum has trolls in it. I have defended the company on several occasions myself, regarding the medals and ads and whatnot as much of the criticism there was over the top.

How many people do you think will continue playing/spending money, if the servers continue to be collapsed in this manner with no word from management? 99 percent of the posts I've read are to the tune that the merged servers are unplayable, even with the additional changes, as there are too many player cities, no NPCs, no flats, and no way to support a large army. I am as of yet unable to login to wn1 myself to check it out. Without any contradicting statement or evidence from players, let alone reps, that, to me, would indicate the game is already on its way out and that the same will happen to all servers soon. I would prefer it if that were not the case, obviously, as I think it has a lot of potential, but what is there to indicate otherwise?

I am not biased one bit. Some people may think I am, but believe me, when I have something to say I say it. No one influences how I think or what I say. My views and my mouth get me in trouble all over the world.

If you think I am biased, thats fine, I won't sit here and try to change your mind. I do however know how to get change done and am trying to impart that knowledge. What you do with it is your business. I have been able to make two different companies completely change some of their policies or the way they do something by using what I know.

The side I am on in all of this, mine. I see what the complaints are, I see what is good. I see how some try their best to work toward change, I see how others blow it completely apart by their actions while trying to help. I don't get anything by playing, I don't get anything by trying to help.

Without any info from the company people have no way of knowing if their voices are being heard.
When their positive input, constructive criticism is met with silence and people see changes that take the game in the opposite direction of what they would like (I.E. server mergers that are not announced and seem to detract from the entertainment value of the game), people naturally will begin to lash out with less than constructive comments out of frustration and disappointment.
negative feedback is just as important as positive feedback.
It should also be taken into account that there are alot of teens and children playing this game.Teens and children have not yet developed the discipline or social skills required to give only constructive, positive feedback or to give negative feedback in a manner that the forum mods and Evony require, but they are customers none the less.what is more important the content of the feedback or the manner in which it is presented?
