    Angry Sticks and Stones

I just received this e-mail from a good friend on server 25:

    Dear Friend

[Player Name] from Alliance [Alliance Name] just sent a player who has a family member dying from cancer this mail.

‘’ i hope you can*cancer, and slow painful death.’’

I am asking you to send this message to [Player Name] on behalf of those who are suffering from
    Cancer.
‘’Shame on you for all those suffering from cancer’’

Please don’t send hate mail but only that message.
The evony team knows about this offensive mail.

    Thanks
It makes me very sad to read this. At the risk of sounding like a bleeding heart, over sensitive fool I have to say I think it's wrong for us to treat others like this over a simple computer game. I believe very strongly in freedom of speech. As such, I believe this player had the right to say what they did and I don't necessarily think they should be censored for it...
    -BUT-
Come on! To react so strongly over a game you feel the need to use such venomous words... It's just wrong.

I think the vast majority of us will agree in letting this player know that although they have a right to say these words- these words are not right to say!

*edit* I have since seen a screen shot of this so I can verify that this really happened.

I hope you got permission from that person to post their conversation because as we found out in another thread

The forum rules have a very specific rule stating posting of player's messages without their express permission is not allowed.

I did get permission from the person who sent the e-mail. In addition to this, I wanted a post that was about the topic and NOT about the players involved- if you look closely you can see I censored the player's name and that player's alliance name. Many may know already who was involved but not from me.

I think the question of how far it is OK to go when trash talking or threatening someone in game is a valid one for our community. Yes it's a WAR game but it is a GAME and I think we can all stand to use some restraint. I'm wondering what other player's viewpoint on this are.

I completely agree. Especially for those of us that have lost someone to the terrible disease, cancer.

I agree there should be a limit on how far people are allowed to go,after all it is just a game.
I dont believe it`s helpful to keep situations like this private and hush hush.
When people see others doing this kind of stuff and dont see or hear about the repercussions of the actions they naturally assume that nothing wwas done and that emboldens them to do simular type of things.
Obviously I`m not suggesting that a public announcement be made in the forums saying " player joe smith did this and we banned his account",but it seems that alot of the same offenses are being committed by different people. The message doesnt seem to be getting out that if you do certain things action will be taken against you.Which is why I think that threads like this are a good thing.

This is all going back to an issue that was investigated and dealt with appropriately.

What I am seeing here is rather disturbing. We have players who make a complaint. Evony responds promptly and asks for all the pertinent information from all parties. They investigate and decide upon a course of action and notify the affected parties.

Now, one party or another decides they can't let this go. They take their screenshots and their complaints to other players to enlist them in ongoing harassment campaigns against the other party. Forum threads are made that the staff cannot reasonably reply to because the situation, investigation and resolution are private between Evony and the involved players. Everyone gets all riled up about this terrible crime that was committed, and will not let it ever die.

I am assuring you, with absolute personal conviction, that THIS issue was addressed. So was the other one that has had many threads started about it this past week. BOTH were resolved appropriately.

Will you all please let it go? You need to know that in one case you are not getting the complete set of facts and in the other you are not aware of the actions taken by Evony.

    I apologize Foxybunny,

I won't post on this thread again. Obviously I should have thought this through a little longer but my intention was to raise a question with everyone about how far we wanted to go with the messages in game-

My post wasn't really meant to be about this incident in particular but about the multiple types of similar verbal assaults made by members of our community every day. For example, right now on world chat in server 25 someone is accusing another of being a child beater, insults are flying, and someone else through in a sexually explicit insult I don't care to repeat. I think it's one thing to tell another player you think they're stupid and another to attack their character or say things that would get us fired at work or suspended from class. I really wanted to make a call for more maturity.

I should have made a different post and if I could go back 24 hours in time I would.

Here the question is, how far do you think you can get trash talking someone in real life before they break your nose, or worse. Everyone knows where the line is, some choose not to pay attention to that line and cross it.

There is nothing wrong with a little trash talk, most of all when it is kept in good fun.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it!

Because in 99 percent of these cases there is no action taken, and we know this because we see the accounts of the most blatant offenders remaining active and receive no response for weeks after submitting the request through the proper channels, whether it be harassment or exploit...though it's more exploit that I'm concerned about, as that's not a problem that can be solved by blocking the offending person.

I think people say things on the internet they would never say out loud to anyone. I see conversations going on in server world chat that could be offensive but I choose not to take offense and I click the button that switches me to alliance chat.

There will always be immaturity in a large population. My suggestion is to not make an issue of it, ignore it and play your own game. It cuts down on the drama and makes the game much more pleasant for yourself.
