Very true. If I recall rightly, Plato was a student of Socrates, and was the one who documented Socrates' death. Socrates viewed it as neccessary if I recall, and he was actually offered either exile or death, but chose hemlock so that he might serve as an example against persecution for your beliefs.
Very heroic, to chose death over life, in the hopes that others might be able to express their beliefs without suffering similar fates.
