Thread: I'm done

    Default I'm done

Truthfully this seems like an alright game, that is a lot of fun. At the same time there are real game breaking virtues about it.

In my opinion, the biggest one is the truce function. On Wednesday I had an emergency at work, and had to come in on my days off and work Thursday and Friday as well. I ended up sleeping on a cot on the floor on my shift off, but did manage to throw a truce flag out on Thursday night, I had perhaps a minute or two of spare time to log on, on someone's laptop (it is blocked at work).

I get home late Friday night, and try to throw myself into truce. I'm getting hammered at my biggest city, but I can't because there seems to constantly be "armies marching towards it". I go to bed, go to work this morning, come back and the city is dead.

Now that in my opinion is one of the worst aspects of the game. There is nothing beyond a half day of being away from it. I wasn't even protected for 24 hours. Now what could I have done if I took a vacation for a few days, or another emergency cropped up.

Shouldn't there be an option to "freeze" everything and then come back when you have a chance to play? No resources, no research, troops freeze and aren't trained.

The oddest part is that I had three truce flags, and I learned now that there is a cool down period before you can use another one. There is really no effective way to take a break from this game.

By the way, I was around 110K prestige on server two, with around 13K Archers, 13K swordsmen, 300 Ballistas, and 3000 archers towers, plus other assorted things. It wasn't as if I wasn't protected, but over the course of that time period they were reduced to nothing.

It would be nice if they implemented something like the "freezing" I suggested.

edit: It should also be noted that my opponent wasn't much bigger than me, maybe 10K prestige, but he simply had a bigger army (and I didn't have a chance to reinforce from my other two cities) and eventually just wore me down.

It's just tough to lose your best city to RL and you can't do anything about, because they'll just wait for the measly truce to expire and continue to rape when it wears off.

In games like these, real time war games that is, there is no non-abusable freeze time feature.

Travian had the same issue but offered the ability to assign "sitters" to your account, which was tremendously handy.

Sitters could log into your account using their own password and do various things to your cities. I believe in Travian it was pretty much everything except sending catapult waves at enemies. This way you can have people in your alliance that you kind of trust keep an eye on your account and check on it from time to time. Obviously they wouldn't be full time raiding and managing your resources or doing your queues, but if an attack came they could close/open the doors, move resources around, spend resources accordingly without much extra work involved. It mimized the whole "gotcha while you werent playing!".

Personally, in games like these, your best bet (if you are unable to watch your account 24/7, which nobody is) is to share an account with a friend, preferably someone in a distant time zone, or multiple friends, or have sitters.

I remember in Travian at one point I couldn't allow my account to be "unattended" for more than 45 minutes, which was a real headache. That was during a time when I was frail and expecting lots of action =] Without those sitters, nobody would be getting any sleep.

But freezing on the other hand, even though you intend to use it for good, will inevitably be abused by everyone whenever they don't want to get attacked.

How do you think other games work? I've played games where you have to sit at a PC for 8 hours clicking the mouse to train your character. Then when you start working, you find yourself the weakest person around, because you purely don't have enough time to train. What I am trying to say is, if you work full time, just like you I do, I am at work now, then maybe this game isn't for you. Have you tried getting the USB stick that allows you to have the internet on your laptop no matter where you are? Most games on my work PC are blocked, but fortunatly for me this isn't one of them. I've read through these forums the past few days, people have been complaining about the 7 day rule, and people with much higher prestige wiping them out. I have had none of these issues what so-ever. I upgraded my town hall to level 5 after 4 days. I havn't had one person attack my cities. You just must be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I like the freeze idea but maybe it freezes everything but your army/army's can still die.

Regrettably the laptop wasn't mine, nor do I own one. Shrug, I guess the wrong place wrong time thing, but I guess I am disappointed in the time I put into it being so easily undone, and also by the truce/cooldown open window. I only had three truce banners, but twelve hours really isn't that much time in game, and I was only able to get on to use one.

I guess it was inevitable though, I mean I have a wedding to go to in three weeks, and I doubt I would have been able to check it then nor been inclined too. Damn, and I had just gotten level 8 archery.

It's alright, I have no ill will over it, but I think it would be a nice idea that you could walk away for a couple days and be safe.

Needs some sort of in-active mode you can move to when away for a long time or something
