AT range + Archery + Wall lvl bonus..they hit even further than that!
Cata' are affected by Archery, mind you.
But aye, cata's have pretty beasty range and decent life/def bonuses to last them to get to the ATs...although their mspeed kills it.
You might wanna use archers/cav to get the ATs then then catas to maul the army.
If the Ats are on lv9/10 walls nothin' can hit them w/o takin' losses; they outrange everythin' by that point; especially if there's traps/rockfalls extendin' the range to 5k to guarantee that the attacker starts too far away to attack before gettin' shot at.
If the walls are 5 or lower...well..even b'listers can take them out loss-free...
They do jus' reach that bit further, and they hit that much harder...they have solid def and decent life...they're beasts at what they do, but still not worth the sheer amount of extra effort and upkeep for them (in my humble opinion) when you coudl jus' use Rams instead.
Cata's did used to be better, but they became a pretty god-mode weapon that only lucky amulet-runners, high lvl NPC raiders or CS'rs could get any sizable amount of "whoever had the most catas would win" sorta thing. To offset this accusation of CS'rs bein' at an advantage, they rebalanced. ATs got better, bein' the main thing. By now it's all about Archers, which at least anyone can get, CS or not.
