Time the way it is now makes sense to me. I'm against all kinds of pointless changes that force people to learn an entirely new way of doing something when it's not necessary. Which is why I will never support America going metric. That is very interesting though.

Time is just another thing that needs to be measured. Whether you use the American system, metric, the SI system, the anchient Chinese system or something you made up yourself, the object being measured is still the same, just expressed differently. 60 inches is the same as 152.40 centimeters, regardless of how its expressed. Time is no exception.
Yes, its true that many anchient cultures had more advanced ways of tracking time (and other stuff) then we do now. Thats becuase we lost a LOT during the Dark Ages, and more when the Mayans, Incas, and Aztecs were wiped out and effectively erased by Spanish conqorers.
PS The 2012 thing is a load of bullcrap, the end of the world has been predeicted a thousand times and the've all been wrong. The Mayans probably just stopped counting past 2012; us saying that they predicted that to be the end of the world would be like someone in the future finding one of our calenders that dosen't go past 2050 and saything that the world must end in 2050.

Well Esca, you make a number of decent points.
The thing is that a number of the things you mentioned are merely one story in a number of different ideas. Most of this is in your final "Friday the 13th" passage.
The 13th moon or Blue moon or Harvest moon wasn't the source of deception. And many factors of cultural tradition affect the number 13.
The Egyptians believed the 13th step in life is death (although they liked death)
The last supper had 13 members.
Plus many multiple other theories and ideas
Friday was disliked because the main power during the middle ages, the roman catholic church, disliked paganism. Friday was the best day of the week to pagans and inversely became the worse to Catholics. (Friday is Freya-day, or day of the norse goddess of love.) But even that has more explanations/ideas/theories.
The truth is people just dislike change. So clocks will stay the same and all that jazz. sorry.

We seem to be doing pretty well with the system we have now. As long as we're all using the same system who cares if it isn't "natural"? Forcing everyone to learn a new system would just confuse people and throw the results of experiments made in the years after the switch into question. Kinda pointless to go through all that trouble when we're fine the way we are.

^ agreed.
Plus the the Spanish burnt a load of the Mayans books any ways. So what the heck do we know?

A lot actually, it's just that there is so much more out there that we don't know. For example, we have managed to kill out whole diseases, yet there are 1000's more we don't even have treatment for.
The amount of knowledge we have uncovered in the last few 1000 years has been amazing, the amount of knowledge uncovered in the last 100 years is huge! but for every thing discovered, there will be 1000's of paths to go down from this. It really does boggle the mind to think about the questions that are still unanswered. Now I've really confused myself....
I have to argue with you Tricky. We have discovered many cures for diseases, we haven't released them because, how else are hospital, etc, going to make money?
I know it's off-topic but I just wanted to put my reply.
The whole point of a hospital is not to make money, it is to look after sick and injured people. Fair enough, they need to balance the books, but something like the NHS gets 100 billion+ pounds a year off the government, and it still has to charge people for certain drugs. I think that it's completely ridiculous that you can hold back a cure for a disease in order to make money. Try telling the mother of some kid that just nearly died that you had the cure, but you chose not to use it on them so you could squeeze a few hundred dollars extra out of them for treatment.
^ I agree with the above statement.
What do you suggest changing about our system of time? The amount of seconds in a minute, minutes in an hour, hours in a day, days in a week, and days in a year? It could work, but it would take a lot of compromise to get a calendar everybody agrees on. Think of how changing the calendar would throw off holidays and other events.
