    I don't see the big deal about brown sugar in meatloaf as brown sugar is an ingredient in things like bbq sauce. A little sweet to offset spice is good.

    I HAVE to say this about the brown sugar/molasses thing: You do not make brown sugar by pouring molasses over sugar. Rather, sugar in its natural state is brown. You put it into a press and squeeze it until the liquid runs out of it. That liquid is molasses. What is left is white sugar (minus a little refining process.)

    FoxyBunny is right. I was a cook in the Navy for 10 years. As such we used Brown sugar as it gave a better tast in most Bar BQ ssauces, Bar BQ baked Beans, ribs, meat loaf and various other things. Some times Maple syrup is used as well.
