You know what, what the hell. I'll go with it. This man's gonna be the guy who puts OT back on it's feet. And I'm glad you realize the seriousness of a perma. Welcome back, resurected one.

First off, no one person can do anything on here. Second, I have tried in the past to get you guys to see that as a community you must police yourselves. Not as a select group, but as a community, communities welcome new people but they also work to keep the community thriving and solve problems.

When I made a thread about how we need to start policing ourselves in OT again and work to educate new people that OT does not equal spam, everyone jumped on board then immediately did exactly what they agreed was the problem.

I'm sorry, guys, but this place will eventually turn into a extreme spam fest and most of the spam haters will just leave. All OT's I've been too are like that.

Edit: As time goes on, more and more hardcore spammers that don't give a crap will be here and none of you will be able to stop them. The increase of spammers and trolls will be exponential. It's an eventuality. Resistance is futile.

The issue was discussed on the "Storm Surge" thread, too.
As much as I reckon that there needs to be an element of self-moderation (as ABakker suggested) I really think we need real mods in the area, too. Not because we need constant supervision, but because folk do get caught up in it all and forget; havin' someone tasked w/ keepin' that at a reasonable level helps on a whole new level...as well as us makin' an effort to keep it in shape. We cannae jus' expect a mod to come in and change the world; it's still a group effort but requires more than one simple solution.

Simple, not everyone has to reply in every thread as soon as they get on. Some threads that are useless just need to be left to die. If you see someone spamming a thread that isn't a spam thread, or trolling, report them. Don't quote them, or respond to them, just report them.

If someone makes a duplicate of a thread, is there really a need to start posting in it to tell them it's a duplicate? why not let it die?

These few things alone are a way to police yourselves and can make a huge impact.
